Re: Episode 28 - Passage to Tartarus

Mandra Team

Seeing his target Marasai starting to bug out after the quick firefight between both sides, Jules felt obligated to chase after it. The Axis forces would only have the strength of numbers on their side for only a very short time, most likely minutes at most. One less enemy mobile suit, especially a modern enemy mobile suit, would greatly help the Axis Zeon in the ongoing battle.

Jules could partially hear Brutus's angry battle cry as he himself blasted forward, this time trying to aim precisely at his target before firing one-handed two times at the retreating Marasai (OOC: I'm shooting at Tim), his other hand gripping one of the Gaza-C's beam saber handles on his right shoulder for when the battle turned into a melee.

Re: Episode 28 - Passage to Tartarus

- AEUG 4th Squadron Vicinity -
- Alpha Team -

Stukov disengaged the Rick Diases he had been fighting halfheartedly. Pan and Dolk fell into formation shortly thereafter, the inconclusive nature of their clash with Dervish Team 1 leaving a bad taste in their mouths.

- Gamma Team -

Linking up with either Nick or Aaron would mean flying too close to Beta Team for Hepburn’s comfort, especially considering the sorry state of his Marasai. Instead, Hepburn opted to withdraw to the ships by a roundabout route, linking up with the Herakles and Nunavut Hizacks. That meant, however, moving on the same vector as the Kanone Dias that had lately divorced Hepburn’s Marasai of several limbs.

So Hepburn powered his thrusters to catch up to Trask. The Gamma Team pilot would be fighting at a grave disadvantage, but that Dias would no doubt add firepower against the Hizacks that were meant to be Hepburn’s ticket home. Plus, he’d rather tangle, however briefly, with this single Dias than try to fly through the Ritter gang’s formation in the state he was in.

“Hey!” he shouted at the Kanone Dias pilot, “You can’t slip away so easily!” He hurled his beam saber at Trask and drew the second one as he continued to close in on his target.

- Beta Team –

The sudden explosion of Trask’s bazooka barely elicited a flinch from the advancing Beta Team. Nick’s machine gun attack, however, got Wolf’s attention. He had to swerve to evade the bulk of it, but a few rounds sliced into the upper torso armor. Sven moved to get in front of Wolf, but a hand signal from Wolf’s Barzam was all the understanding he needed to back away and continue pursuing Hepburn.

Without a word, Wolf changed course and launched himself at Nick’s tiger-striped Barzam.

Sven and Daren, meanwhile, continued toward Hepburn’s Marasai. Daren momentarily locked on to it, then abruptly cycled targets to fire his beam rifle twice at Trask’s Kanone Dias. Sven, however, had no compunction about firing his bazooka at the hobbled Marasai.

- Nunavut Team -

Akizawa frantically hit his reverse thrusters when Irene hurled the lifeless bulk of Iarocci’s Hizack at him, but it wasn’t enough. His own Hizack slammed into the dead machine, the impact airbags shooting to prevent a faceslam with the control panel. Akizawa was in a brief uncontrolled spin that took him a moment to correct, robbing him of the opportunity to continue shooting Irene. By the time he’d righted himself, he noticed the Kirov’s withdrawal flares.

Faisal, too, noted the flares with more than a little annoyance. “Just when we had this guy on ropes, too. Let’s get out of here, Nunavut Team.” He swerved a hard left toward the warships while popping off a burst of parting shots at Irene.

Not so easy for Babineaux, receiving the brunt of Irene’s attentions. She broke a violent right to attempt an escape, but Irene’s onslaught was relentless. Beams seared through the legs and head of Babineaux’s Hizack, wrecking those parts beyond hope, the legs cutting away at mid-thigh each. The survival instinct melted away all fear such that Babineaux didn’t hesitate to let loose with the hip missiles and a flurry of beam rifle shots as she veered unsteadily back to the warships.

* * *

- Axis Zeon Mudra Detachment Vicinity -
- Iota Team –

"Don't get too deep. We're to cover the Buxoro team's withdrawal. Grace, cover our flank."

“Understood, Lieutenant,” Grace Kelborn snapped back quickly. Her Marasai broke slightly away from Allister’s and Jason’s suits, keeping a position roughly behind and “above” them. While her teammates attacked Zarm Team, Grace fired a three-shot beam rifle burst at Mandra’s Orion Team in the same area to break them off.

- Buxoro Team -

The onslaught of Axis fire was intense, but the arrival of reinforcements gave Tyler some confidence that he’d survive. The guy charging ahead of his buddies, though, had evaded Tyler’s shots and was still coming on, now in MS mode. The man’s brazen taunt crackled through Tyler’s cockpit.

“Got a lot of nerve, pal!” Tyler shot back. For all his bravado in return, though, Tyler’s mind was preoccupied with trying to get out before he and Tim were stuck in that Zeonic mire. Opting to ignore the reckless Axis pilot’s obvious desire to duke it out, Tyler kicked into a vernier-assisted AMBAC spin to point himself upside-down relative to his previous position and veer in a sharp angle toward Iota Team’s position. As he fell back, Tyler pointed his beam rifle straight down to shoot at Brutus several times as a parting gift.

- Orinoco Team -

“I was right!” exulted Gutierrez, “Marasais! Now we just cut a hole through these Zekes!”

The trio of Hizacks rushed past the preoccupied Mudra toward Iota and Buxoro Teams. Between Orinoco Team and its allies, however, were a clump of Gaza-Cs. Gutierrez pointed his green machine toward Tim and Tyler’s position, giving him an approach straight through Mandra’s Peoron Team.

“Run and gun, guys. No way in hell we’re sticking around long!” Gutierrez punctuated the remark by firing a stream of 120mm rounds at Pamnell’s wounded, retreating Gaza without slowing down.

Huynh and Moresby had their attentions ahead. Of the Peoron Team Gazas, two were moving forward to fight the Marasais up close, while a third was keeping a distance with knuckle-buster support fire. Huynh rattled off a quick burst of her MG at the Gaza hanging back (Astor) while Moreseby let loose with his hip missiles at Jules.

Re: Episode 28 - Passage to Tartarus

- Axis Zeon Mudra Detachment Vicinity –
- Bindra Team –

The pair of Nemos grouped behind a single shield was up to something, Ball just had no earthly clue what. Rather than let himself get wrapped up in such a mystery, Ball focused more on cutting left into a tight corkscrew to evade the distant supporting shots from Bernard Korbel. As he did so, one of the two Nemos – the one with an infinity symbol on the shoulder – rushed him with a lit beam saber.

“I’m not sticking around here!” Ball broke upward this time, relative to Paris, and fired the claw beam guns wildly at his attacker to discourage her from closing the gap. He maintained a heading that would shoot him past the main bulk of Hamburg Team.

Renard banked right just slightly as Kite fired at him. The beams raked across the mobile armor’s back, leaving long scorches down the length of it and darkening a few panels in Renard’s cockpit display but otherwise doing no serious damage. Renard didn’t return fire, however, instead letting the speed of the MA-mode Gaza-C shoot him past the enemy. Djorn and Nikolai were right behind and providing their own follow-up shots after all.

Once behind, more or less, Hamburg Team, Renard snapped the Gaza into MS mode and wordlessly reached out the right hand to stop Nikolai’s spinning machine, firing his thrusters momentarily to counter the impact.

- Zarm Team -

Norlan reared back to lunge at Kou’s Nemo with his beam saber, but Kou’s movements were too quick, backing away and firing the beam rifle before Norlan could close the distance. The Axis pilot had only a brief moment in which he realized his critical mistake before the Nemo’s dark pink beam plunged into the Gaza-C’s shoulder at such an angle that it also pierced the torso and the reactor within, exiting out the other side as the pink MS transformed into a blossoming series of explosions.

-

“Hey watch it, idiot!” howled Tek as Orion’s impromptu MS team dove in front of Zarm Team’s line of fire without warning. Shortly thereafter, Iota Team’s support fire streamed in at the remaining two Zarm suits.

Lebim’s Gaza took a hit in the left shoulder, severing that arm totally. She winced as the HUD screamed about it, but otherwise kept her cool in spite of her rushed training. She tried to gain altitude so that Orion’s group wasn’t in her line of fire, unwittingly taking her closer to Tim and Tyler’s Marasais as she jockeyed for position with her blinders on.

Tek came off luckier, swerving downward, in a maneuver well-executed for a greenhorn, to let Allister’s shots stream above him. Annoyed at Orion’s gall, he fired off a pair of knuckle buster blasts back at his attacker without changing position.

Re: Episode 28 - Passage to Tartarus

- AEUG 4th Squadron Vicinity -
- Dervish Team 3 -

Wes swore. The Black Tiger had effortlessly deflected his beam saber strike and then disengaged. But now it looked like the Titans were falling back anyway. Trask was moving to regroup. The armor on Wes’s shoulders and upper torso was mangled and bullet-riddled, and both the phalanx vulcans and one of the beam pistols on his backpack were wrecked.

But it looks like we’ll have a chance to rest soon.

“Adam, let’s link up with Irene and Wales. I don’t like the way things are going. If that Black Tiger is any indication, we just tangled with the same guys who’ve been giving 4th Squad problems since the fight at Von Braun.”

But a HUD indication caught Wes’s eye. Through the Minovsky smog, his sensors barely picked up another Titans MS withdrawing from the battlefield. After briefly misindentifying it as a modified Marasai, the display corrected itself to read M-156.

A light went off in Wes’s head. M-156 was the monster terrorizing 4th Squadron since the battle at Zedan, the same one that killed Clute and Terrace and sank the Balrampur. Wes had almost been killed by one during Operation Maelstrom.

“Scratch that. I can’t let these bastards get away again! Trask, cover me!” Wes redirected his Dias toward the retreating Griffins and launched himself at them. With an almost supernatural keenness Wes noticed the lead Griffin was marked with a hammer and sickle on the shoulder.

YOU!!

He fired the beam rifle thrice at Stukov while raising his acceleration a notch.

- New Yark Team –

The Barzam variant’s stream of chain gun rounds tore Hard AE’s worn shield to ribbons. Hard AE clucked in appreciation at the weapon’s savage power while his cockpit display warned of reduced left-arm functionality.

Fortunately, the Titans forces looked like they were withdrawing, and that Barzam was on its way out. By the time he’d recovered from the hit he’d taken, Hard AE saw he couldn’t hope to take any clear shots at it.

That was fine. There were still those Hizacks to deal with. New Yark Team’s eccentric leader moved forward, under Thibaut’s Nemo, and fired a double tap at the same target as his XO.

“Hey Tita~ns! Time to go home fooooo~!”

-

Thibaut’s pulse quickened as he saw his last shot land cleanly on the Hizack. Encouraged, he took aim at Marco again and opened fire, hoping for a kill.

-

Mart had cleared over Alex’s Hizack and was about to link up with Hard AE and Thibaut when Marco’s shots came at him. He twisted around to get his shield in place, but he was too late; the shots tore through his beam rifle and lopped off the right arm above the elbow. Another shot ripped through the bottom right of the torso, a little too close to the generator for Mart’s comfort but luckily not close enough for a breach. Feeling queasy, and reacting to a quick hand signal from Hard AE, Mart backed away toward Dervish Team 1, where the fighting had died down. As he did so, he fired a shoulder cannon shot haphazardly at Marco.

-

The sound of straining metals groaned through Stamble’s Nemo. The AEUG pilot growled as he saw the Hizack’s free hand had caught his own saber-wielding hand before the blade could make contact. Stamble yanked at the controls, hoping for one frantic moment that he could pry his weapon free, but Orsino made his finishing move before Stamble had the chance.

The struggle Stamble had attempted in that one brief moment ensured Orsino’s blade didn’t cut through the torso in a straight line. The Nemo jostled up and down as the saber bit through, and unfortunately for Stamble it jostled down at just the moment for that particle blade to run straight through his cockpit. In an act of futile animal instinct, Stamble threw his arms over his face as the panoramic monitor burned away and filled his vision with a blinding yellow light. A moment later he was vapor.

Orsino’s beam saber exited out one side of Stamble’s Nemo, now a husk being rocked and broken up by internal explosions.

Re: Episode 28 - Passage to Tartarus

- Axis Zeon Mudra Detachment Vicinity –
- Kwire Refit Transport ship –

- hanger -

Ens. Aldrich had landed first and was quick to remove his helmet to get a bite. Rushing over to a mini food station set up for pilots and tech crews, he joked about his recent outing to a small group already eating, "I killed, like, 14 guys out there."

- space -

As Kell was reaching the dock, Emmers was about to click on his comm to correct Kell on his landing when his sensors alerted him of two small objects approaching their position.
"Pull Up! Pull Up! Kwire Port-side! Port-side!" he screamed after hitting his comm and redirecting his Gaza toward the rockets then firing wildly at the small objects. Kell also noticed the projectiles and aborted his landing and fired.

- bridge -

Sophie's rockets went unnoticed until Emmer's voice broke through the comm chatter just before the ship's missile alert went off. The operator quickly glanced at his sensors and saw the rockets, " Incoming!!"

Lt. Delta almost dropped his tea with this surprise. Instinctively he yelled out for evasive maneuvers as klaxon's sounding for battle stations rang throughout the transport ship. The ship's engine lumbered to pull up. The first rocket spiraled past missing wide then exploding and sending shrapnel to it's left side engine causing enough harm to automatically shut down all power in that section before wide spread damage could occur, but the second seemed to be on target. The proximity alert echoed in the bridge causing Lt. Delta to go blank. The rookie commander of the ship blurted out the only thing that came to mind.

"Defensive Shields!"

The crew man holding the lieutenant's tea pot decided that this was the best time to let out all of his frustrations. "A superlative suggestion sir, with just two minor flaws. One, we don't have any defensive shields and two, we don't have any defensive shields. Now, I realize that technically speaking it's only one flaw. But I just thought it was such a big one that it was worth mentioning twice,"
The operator suddenly stood up, his eyes glued to a screen, "Brace yours-"

* BOOM *
The rocket spiraled at the last moment and hit underneath the ship near it's hanger area.

- hanger -

The klaxons made Aldrich's eyes widen with fear. Dropping his sandwich, he raced back to his Gaza. Half-way there he reached for his helmet which was suddenly pulled away from him. The next thing he noticed was that he was being pulled along with his helmet. The explosion went unnoticed by him, only the floor section being torn open caught his attention. Desperately he turned to grab a metal railing but did not have the grip to hold on or the ability to scream and was sucked out into space along with other crew and objects.

Re: Episode 28 - Passage to Tartarus

- Bindra Team -
Djorn saw Nikolai lose control of his mobile suit and strayed in his path to assist him. But Renard assisted the other man so Djorn's help proved unnecessary. Of course, that also left both Nikolai and Renard in a vulnerable position.

As the trio shot past the Hamburg Team, he transformed his Gaza C to mobile suit mode, noting a faint buzz during the process which he suspected meant that his suit had only a few transformations in it.

He spun his suit, with the computer's assistance so that it faced the Hamburg Team the entire time. His combat computer helped determine the biggest threat and his targeting reticule tracked toward Kite.

"Oh no you don't!" he shouted, though there was no way the enemy pilot could hear him. He fired off a trio of shots from his knucklebuster at Kite.

"Don't sit still guys. Split up and flank this loser. We'll get him from three angles," he radioed to Renard and Tuzenbach. He immediately followed his own advice, opening up his thrusters to move down in relation to Ishima.

((Firing two shots at Kite.))

Re: Episode 28 - Passage to Tartarus

- Team Two -

Bernard didn't stay long enough to see if his shots were on target, instead he focused on the Axis ships. Being a faster mobile suit, he was able to close in rather quickly without worrying about enemy suits pursuing him. Two flashes coming from the smaller ship caught his eye. Sophie's shots must have hit, he thought to himself.
On a small section on the panoramic monitor, he zoomed in on the transport ship. To him it appeared to be on it's side, an electrical charge covered the left side of it's engine.

He decided to leave he wounded shoe box and boost toward the other ships as he armed his missiles. Rolling and zig-zagging to avoid their anti-aircraft guns, he fired two shots with his remaining beam pistol and when his targeting computer acquired a lock he immediately fired a cluster of missiles from his left hip launcher at the Mandra.

Allister was so surprised at how well the Axis maneuvered his suit that he made a mental note in case he ever got back to instructing again. His Marasai pulled up and into an evasive roll avoiding the first blast then at the right moment he rolled to starboard and pulled into a high-g turn to avoid the second blast, making sure the axis pilot kept his eyes on his flashy moves.

Jason saw his shot connect but it was a no-kill. Coming in from the side, he quickly cycled to the next target which hadn't changed position after firing and seemed to be only focused on Allister's Marasai. Once his targeting reticule confirmed a lock he instantly fired a pair of shots at Tek's Gaza.

Re: Episode 28 - Passage to Tartarus

-Hamburg Team Vicinity-
Derrick cursed, his vulcan fire not only missing the mark, but it seemed that neither the Gazas OR the other Nemos had noticed his presence. In the chaos of the battlefield, he didn't blame them. His eyes drifted over to the area where his left arm once was, now missing after a run in with a group of rather... civil Axis pilots. Refocusing his attention of the battlefield, he frowned.

He kept his eyes on a trio of Gazas that were after a single Nemo, whose shield didn't look as though it was going to last any longer. Thankfully, it seemed that he went largely ignored throughout the skirmish, and ignited his beam saber. He fired his thrusters, flying after the Gaza that seemed to be aiming for the Nemo's underside, and pointed his saber forward as he chased after the Axis MS.

"Not today, pal!" he shouted, though he wasn't sure why. Half of him thought that he just gave away the best advantage he had, and the other half desperately hoped that the pilot's reaction time would be slow enough so that he'd be able to get a decent strike in.

((Charging after Djorn, whose team seems to be going after Kite. Hope I provide a big enough distraction for Kite to counterattack...))

Just as he was about to close in, a lock on warning and a flash happened at the same time. Pulling hard on the controls Alex attempted to throw his Hizack out of the Nemo's line of fire, managing to avoid getting picked off by Thibaut but getting half of the camera melted away from the near miss with Mart's cannon.

Flipping switches to bring up the secondary cameras, Alex was just able to catch the signal flares from the fleet and from what he could see, some of the other teams were starting to pull out.

"Fleet's calling Herakles Team, lets get out of here" he called out as he fired off a burst of bullets at the eager Thibaut to backup Marco, all the while steadily falling back towards the fleet.

Re: Episode 28 - Passage to Tartarus

-Team 3-

“Adam, let’s link up with Irene and Wales. I don’t like the way things are going. If that Black Tiger is any indication, we just tangled with the same guys who’ve been giving 4th Squad problems since the fight at Von Braun....Scratch that. I can’t let these bastards get away again! Trask, cover me!”

Trask nearly did a double take at wes' abrupt orders while dodging wildly aimed machine gun fire, cringing as he saw the Dias B-type begin to pursue the Griffins as they disengaged from team 1

"what the hell are you doing?! they're disengaging!" his reply was met with silence.

"WES!"

a warning indicator alerted him to incomming beam fire, forcing him to abandon any further attempt at reasoning with his C.O. and focus on keeping himself alive, climbing 'above' the still attacking titans suits it was only then that he saw the beam sabre fly through the space he had been occupying, along with what was left of a marasai charging at him a second time, and one of the two other titans behind it firing bazooka rounds at the suit.

you again? he thought, frustration begining to show. first Rick gets electrocuted helping Rem fix one of the dias'es, then Terrace dies piloting the exact same suit, after that the new guy picks a fight with Jacob, Wes is now acting like Jacob, and now this... i'm done playing nice.

pivoting to face the incomming trio, trask shifted the shoulder cannons to get maximum spread, lined up his sights so that hepburn, sven and daren were all in the firing line, and pulled the triggers as fast as the cannons firing cycle would allow. sending a 5 shot volley in their direction.

-New Yark team vicinity-

Wales was so focused on trying to line a shot on the retreating hizacks that he almost missed the warning indicator, he twisted the suit around to avoid the beam shot striking the torso and by extension the minovsky reactor, and while he was successful it unfortunately still connected, hitting the right side of the collar a few feet away from the cockpit, there was a loud metallic groan as one of the panoramic monitor screens to the pilots' lower right flickered, shorted out and then exploded.

the ensign howled in pain as he was bombarded with shrapnel, feeling pieces of glass, metal, and plastic slice through his right forearm and lower leg, a few large fragments even hit with enough force to break his helmets visor and cut open the side of his face, one of the smaller ones embedding itself into his cheek

after his mobile suit drifted in space for about a minute, he had managed to get just enough of his bearings back to regain control of the suit, despite feeling a mixture of haziness, aches and stinging from the lacerations he focused on Criss.

"that. *cough* does it." he got out between breaths, and charged back at the hizack and lashed out with a wild slash of the beam sabre, grimacing in pain as the acceleration forces and weight shifting of the rick dias took their toll on him

-Hamburg team-

Paris's eyes narrowed as Ball tried to evade her, ignoring the beam gun shots that flew by as she closed the distance, slashing at him once when she flew by him, as paris swung the nemo around to see if her attack connected she saw another Gaza-C take a shot at Al, who slid to one side and retaliated with a three shot burst, two of the rick diases opening fire on the suits that just attacked her team, and an unknown nemo with one arm rush at one of the units attacking kite.

"Lt uraki, sir. we have more reinforcements....sort of" she said quickly, before turning her attention back to Lt Ball, aiming her beam rifle at the Gaza's back, she fired off two shots before the beam rifle made a dull *fzzt* sound and did nothing

with an annoyed 'tch', paris threw the rifle to one side and drew her second beam sabre, by now the Gaza was too far away to catch up with so she instead made a rapid approach towards Pris' suit

Re: Episode 28 - Passage to Tartarus

Djorn did not have time to see if his shots hit or if Nikolai and Renard moved to follow his suggestion. His combat computer flashed a warning urgently, grabbing his attention.

It brought him to a section of his panoramic view that was quickly filling with an approaching Nemo, a Nemo that had the business end of a beam saber aimed at him.

"Waaaa! Oh no you don't!" he exclaimed in surprise a moment after a static filled transmission came through his radio "*skt*...ay*skt*...al"

He barely managed to grab the beam saber in his left shoulder binder before the Nemo hit him. It flared to life even as he was bringing it down. He managed to sweep aside the incoming beam saber a fraction of a second before it would have sliced through his mobile suit.

"You're doomed," he declared, bringing up the knucklebuster in his right hand and firing a pair of shots at point blank range at the Nemo.

Re: Episode 28 - Passage to Tartarus

-Mandra team-

Orion’s little formation seemed to be ignored until a stream of fire began flashing through their area, mostly aimed at the Zarm team behind them. The shots caused them to bunch up slightly more, which proved deadly as Grace’s burst of beams came in. One of the shots hit Rout’s mobile armor-configured Gaza, killing Rout instantly and knocking his machine sideways, right into the path of the oncoming Gaza-C piloted by Raymont. The two pink machines collided and promptly exploded in a massive fireball.

Rusty had his blinders on and never noticed the loss of his teammate or the other Gaza, but he did see the Marasai which had fired the shots. Barely even aware of two other Marasais in the area, he pulled up and began squeezing the trigger as fast as he could, sending a stream of poorly aimed shots at Garce’s machine. Behind him, Fields was similarly focused in and his mobile armor followed Rusty’s maneuver, but refrained from firing for fear of hitting his team leader.

==================================================================

-The Mudra-
-Bridge-

“How badly is Pamnell hit?” Finalan asked his lookouts, concerned over the possibility of a damaged Gaza trying to land in a damaged hangar. The pilot of the Gaza wasn’t entirely sure, and now the lookouts were checking as Pamnell made his approach.

“Incoming suits from the left!” Someone yelled as a pair of Marasais started in. The only mega particle gun that could fire promptly did so, but failed to come close as one Marasai returned the fire.

“Tell the Mandra to reposition!” Finalan was yelling at the communications tech, not looking to his left at the fire headed at them.

MacMurtree’s first shot hit the lone gun, exploding it and knocking Finalan to the ground as everyone on the bridge braced from the shock of that, and other hits being taken from Robin’s attack. It would only last a moment, as another shot fired by MacMurtree directly hit the bridge, instantly killing everyone there.

==================================================================

-Mudra team-

Pamnell’s flight back to the ship was rough and slow. The damaged Gaza-C shook and wouldn’t maneuver well at all, and with various sensors out he had no idea just how bad it was. The Mudra had been helping him make his approach when they were suddenly hit by a pair of Marasais, one that destroyed the bridge, while the other flew underneath and sprayed the ship with beam fire. Several shots burned clean through the ship as fires spread across the forward bulk of the ship.

Pamnell froze at the controls at the sight of this. He never saw the Orinoco team as they raced behind him and hosed the area with 120mm shells. Two hit his Gaza-C, which somehow managed to hold up and continue flying, although they had mercifully knocked Pamnell unconscious. The Gaza-C continued right along and crashed into the forward bulk of the Mudra just below where the forward main gun had been. This final impact sealed the fate of the Mudra, which was now dead in space, with most of the crew dead as chunks of the forward section began to break off as the ship began drifting slowly downwards.

==================================================================

-The Mandra-
-Bridge-

The Mandra was moving into position between the Kwire and the Mudra just as all hell broke loose for both of those ships. They couldn’t see what had caused the Kwire to roll and go dead, but they had seen the pair of Titan suits blitz the Mudra, and then the crash of a Gaza-C that appeared to be the fatal blow for that ship.

Lieutenant Commander Bacon paled as he stood in shock near the window, watching the Mudra begin to break apart. “Comm, get our team back here. They’ll be coming for us next…” He sighed.

“Sir, the Minovsky Particle jamming is too thick! We’re not even sure where they are out there…” The communications tech winced.

“Then fire the recall flares.” Bacon ordered.

No sooner than the flares had fired than an AEUG suit appeared near the Kwire, and began firing on them.

“Shoot that thing down!” Bacon snapped as a pair of beams scorched the starboard side of the ship as the Mandra’s guns turned to starboard and began to fire inaccurately. The enemy suit was identified as a Rick Dias-type a second before it fired a barrage of missiles at them. The gunners promptly shifted their fire, and managed to destroy two of the missiles, but not the other four, which all hit the command tower of the ship and exploded almost simultaneously. When the flashes faded away, the upper part of the ship was nothing more than a misshapen lump, with both main guns in the area destroyed as well, but the ship remained intact.

Immediately, the crew of the Mandra went to work to transfer control to the sub-bridge and contain the damage as they fought to keep their ship intact, while the forward beam gun tracked after the nearby Rick Dias and began to fire as quickly as possible.

Re: Episode 28 - Passage to Tartarus

-Team 2-

Although Eddie wasn’t even sure if it was due to Sophie’s shots, or Bernard getting close, or even if it might have been them at all, but he couldn’t miss the quick damage, and serious, damage suffered by the three near Axis ships.

“Hit ‘em again, Sophie!” Eddie cheered, decided to hope it had been her shots that had somehow done the work, as he spun his Rick Dias to the left to check the action going on there. The Hamburg team was still fighting closely with a group of Gaza-C’s. Eckardy watched, holding his fire until he saw one Gaza-C, Nikolai, go spinning out behind the Hamburg team, only to be promptly joined by another, Renard, which transformed to help stop the spinning one.

“Cowboy, those two!” Eddie yelled, tapping his thrusters to shift a bit away from Sophie, but still close enough to cover her, and a hair closer toward the scrum between the Hamburg and Bindra teams. As he did so, he fired four quick shots from his beam rifle at the distant pair of Gaza-C’s, while Marvin shifted to Eddie’s left, a further away still from Sophie’s C-Type. Seeing the pair of Axis suits Eddie had targeted, he fired a pair of rockets from the bazooka in his right hand and then added a single beam from the pistol in his left as he continued to drift slowly back toward his left.

Re: Episode 28 - Passage to Tartarus

"You'rKzzzt KSShHztoomed."

Derrick felt time slow down at that instant. His mind was going a mile a minute, and he needed to find a way out, and fast! With no way to avoid the shots, he did what he could to minimize the damage. Twisting the torso of his Nemo, he winced as his side skirt armor was torn off, along with a bit of the leg armor, and had a nasty gash torn through the side of his MS. As he collected his wits, a series of emotions whirled about in his mind, most prominently anger. He glared at the Gaza in front of him, and scowled.

"Screw you, pal."

At this range, there was likely to be little to no static in that transmission, and at this range, any moment could be their last. Gripping his Nemo's beam saber, he swung it downward, intent on cleaving off the arm holding the weapon that had nearly vaporized him.

((Alright, let's see if I can even the odds a little. That knucklebuster is rather troublesome...))

“S***! I cannot nail him!” Irene protested in anger as she slowed down and veered right to evade Faisal’s incoming shots. Babineaux’s missiles continued to harassing her in between incoming beam shots. Those kept her machine at bay and she wasn’t too keen to keep on pursuing anymore especially when there are other targets nearby.

She sprayed twice with both hands at Babineaux’s Hizack before making a steep turn to disengage. Faisal’s Suit appeared in center screen but the distance was already greater than beam gun range. The Dias turned away to disengage, Irene opted to provide assistance to allies who needed help.

“Two disengage; I’m got my hands free. Who need help?” she radioed her allies.

Mandra Team

Recall flares?, Jules thought, just barely seeing them out of the corner of his eye. Is the Mandra in trouble?

Unfortunately, there was no time to react to the flares yet; Brutus was in too deep, and Titans reinforcements had arrived, already scrapping far too many Gaza-Cs. The Mandra's Orion Team was getting pounded by a different Marasai.

Jules had no time to transform into mobile armor mode, instead loosening the grip on his unsheathed beam saber and firing his thrusters as hard as possible towards Grace's Marasai, hoping to confuse Tim before he reacted with beam fire. Jules didn't know whether a change in target would actually help win the battle any faster, but he wasn't about to let the blood of his comrades in arms go unpunished.

Quickly checking how many shots were left in his knuckle buster, and feeling his Gaza start to shake slightly as it accelerated, he aimed and fire a trio of beam shots straight at the enemy Marasai (ie, Grace's), hoping to get a quick kill on a distracted foe.

- Bindra Team –

Matthew had slowed down and decided to hang back instead of rushing in with the others. The last time he went full steam it was almost his last.
Right away Matthew saw the action spread out and immediately focused on the enemy singling out Djorn.

After changing to mobile suit mode he aims the knuckle buster at Djorn's attacker, unfortunately the targeting comp has trouble distinguishing between friend and foe. Matthew waits all but 2 seconds, "tsk, heads up"
He fires a single shot at both Djorn and Derrick, if it hits the intended target then fine but if it doesn't, oh well, that's war.

- Team 2 -

After his shots, Bernard arcs his Dias back to the Kwire and fires two more shots to finish off the dying beast before swinging back toward the Mandra.

- Axis Zeon Mudra Detachment Vicinity –
- Kwire Team -

Kell was close enough to the Kwire's hanger to see his friend get sucked out and watched his lifeless body disappear in the void. Kell's anger erupted as soon as his targeting computer detected an enemy suit. Switching to mobile armor mode, he blasts after Bernard's Dias.

- Kwire Bridge -

Lt. Delta struggled to rise holding his left arm which no longer felt any feelings. The room was covered in red light from the screens indicating all the damage throughout the ship. Most of the crewmen seemed to be all right, none requiring immediate medical assistance.

"Main compartment held, I'm afraid the hanger is gone," the operator reported.

Lt. Delta knew he was over his head in this situation, without a hanger they would be without mobile suits. "Send out a distress signal, we are withdrawing. Contact the Gazas, have them transfer assignment to the Mandra-"

Before the lieutenant has time to finish, the operator yells out, "Incoming!!"
Lt. Delta's empty eyes stares at a static filled monitor. He knows they're pretty much dead in space, there's nothing they can do.
Sweat trickles down his face as he straightens and adjusts his uniform with his right hand, having refused to wear a normal suit.

A beam melts the metal above them and pours in swallowing everything in sight before passing down to the next level.

Emmers on the other hand was paralyzed with shock. He'd never seen something so large be stricken down so easily and the poor souls unlucky to still be alive must now fight even harder to live.
Breaking free from his fear, Emmers decided to help where he could. Clicking on his comm, " Lt. Emmers to Kwire. Anyone still--"
Two beam shots tear through the Kwire causing multiple explosions and in a blinding flash the Kwire's debris is scattered.

- Team 2 -

Bernard's Dias warns him of enemy fire and uses his verniers to thrust to a hard right avoiding a blast from the Mandra's forward gun. The blast continues past and strikes Kell dead center, destroying the Gaza instantly. Bernard unaware of the destruction behind him continues on and fires three shots at the Mandra.

Re: Episode 28 - Passage to Tartarus

"Well that's just rude!" Djorn replied to Derrick's shout. His eyes widened as he saw the Nemo's beam saber whipping down at his Knucklebuster. There was no time to block that shot. There was only one way to save the weapon.

The Axis pilot threw his Mobile Suit into a wild spin away, jerking the suit's right arm out wide to pull the weapon away. The Nemo's beam sabre clipped the Gaza C's fore arm, burning a neat gash in the armor and exposing the inner workings.

Djorn would never know it, but that desperate maneuver was the only thing that saved him from a death by friendly fire. Matthew's beam traveled close enough to him that it temporarily fuzzed out some of his view screens. He did see that Matthew was coming to his assistance.

He finished his turn facing Derrick again. Racking the Knucklebuster, he whipped out his second beam saber.

"Surrender now, pawn of the AEUG and we will treat you honorably. For you stand no chance against both of us!"
Yep...That's Texas in a nutshell. Why just say "f**k you" when you can put it on a flag?

Pris still never felt secure with the craftsmanship of the Gaza-C compared to her old One Year War mobile suits, and wanted to put as less strain upon it as she could. Part of that plan entailed attacking from below and the Gaza-C firing straight upwards, intending to keep herself as small a target as possible. From beneath Al's position, she assumed, her mobile suit was less of a humanoid silhouette and more of a blob making a lazy, horrible looking figure eight dodging his return fire.

Attempting an aim while staying apace with her instruments, Pris's radar was pinging off another Nemo near Al's position trying to swoop in on her from above. Reacting on too fast to realize that the incoming Nemo was lacking a rifle and was instead closing melee range, Pris pedaled the Gaza-C backwards--snapping off two wild shots upwards in Al's direction.

Waiting for the shot from Paris to come, the Gaza-C waggled and juked side to side while rocketing backwards. Where are the others? Barely keeping an eye on her instruments to find the rest of her team while waiting the shot from Paris. Instead she was finding new bogeys--Was that the Mudra?!, large fireballs on the edge of vision as an Endra class began tearing apart. Pris fired two shots at the diving Paris pointing left; one to throw Paris off course and the second for Paris to run into.

Trying to keep an eye upon Paris and Al, Pris began maneuvering escape around the Hamburg team to regroup with the other Bindra members.

((Two wild shots at Al. Two shots for Paris))

Re: Episode 28 - Passage to Tartarus

OOC: Axis and AEUG posts will come tomorrow; I'm basically falling asleep where I stand right now :|

IC:
- AEUG 4th Squadron Vicinity -
- Alpha Team -

The lock-on indicator screeched for Stukov’s attention, but with only a backward glance the Russian knew a slight dip would be enough to evade the incoming trio of breams. Pan and Dolk didn’t really acknowledge the shots at their formation.

It was from a single battered Rick Dias attempting to pursue Alpha Team. Alpha Team, however, was done killing for the day. With a shrug, Stukov aimed the Griffin’s heavy beam rifle between the blue suit’s feet and fired a shot to discourage the red AEUG suit’s chase. He then resumed his former posture, looking ahead without changing course.

- Gamma Team -

Nick activated a left-hand beam saber in time to block Wolf’s high-speed rush. The clash sent the two machines spiraling away from each other.

“NO! Idiot! Not now! We can’t finish here!”

With a final stream of machine gun fire to keep Wolf at bay, Nick slipped away from the battlefield.

-

Hepburn had only intended to fight his way past the Kanone Dias to reach Herakles Team, but it wasn’t meant to be. Sven’s incoming bazooka round forced him into an evasive maneuver just as Trask opened up with a brutal spread. The Marasai groaned as Hapburn tried to force another direction change, but the battered machine simply didn’t have what it took to move.

“Ritter clan, don’t you know it’s over? You’re all dead too!”

All five shots lanced through the torso, the Marasai dancing a grotesque death dance before exploding violently.

- Beta Team –

Ritter clan, don’t you know it’s over? You’re all dead too!

Sven listened unblinkingly to Jackson Hepburn’s dying words, more concerned with the stream of beam cannon shots that tore through the Marasai and that the AEUG pilot had expertly lined up to target the Beta Team MS at the same time.

Without a word to one another, Sven and Daren broke in opposite direction – Sven left and Daren right – to avoid the enemy fire altogether. Hepburn was disposed of; their job done, Sven was utterly disinterested in engaging the Kanone Dias and opted instead to double back and regroup. He took a sharp turn toward the warships and lazily fired his other three shoulder missiles at the AEUG suit as he sped away. Daren also reoriented himself to move in the same direction, firing his beam rifle several times as he followed Sven away.

((Sven shoots three shoulder missiles at Trask, Daren shoots beam rifle several times at Trask))

- Nunavut Team -

Faisal had broken away from the AEUG units and was just catching up to Kalinin Team. Where had those jerks been the whole time, anyway?

Shortly thereafter, he was joined by Akizawa and Babineaux. Akizawa’s mobile suit had crumpled armor on some parts of the torso where he’d impacted the dead Hizack Irene had thrown at him. Babineaux’s unit was even worse: Irene’s parting shots had taken away the rest of the suit’s legs and both of the backpack binders. Now her Hizack was effectively just a torso with arms.

“Looks like you two are still alive,” Faisal grinned. Despite themselves, Akizawa and Babineaux returned the expression. Something about their team leader’s dark cheerfulness was infectious.

* * *

- Axis Zeon Mudra Detachment Vicinity -
- Buxoro Team -

Elijah whooped loudly as the Mudra started breaking apart. “Nice shooting, Vlad!”

“You too, Lieutenant.”

The two doubled back to where Tim and Tyler were embattled with a swarm of Axis Zeon mobile suits. “Buxoro Team, let’s get the hell out of here!” Elijah punctuated his order with a three-shot beam rifle flurry at the rather eager Axis pilot at the front of the enemy formation before reorienting his Marasai toward Echo’s warships. Vlad did likewise, aiming instead at another charging enemy.

((Elijah fires thrice at Brutus, Vlad does the same to Jules))

- Iota Team –

Grace noted dispassionately, distantly, that she’d scored a double-kill on the Gaza-C formation she’d fired at. Only a moment later she had incoming fire from two sources. One was a Gaza in MA mode spraying haphazardly. The other was in MS mode, charging hard at her. With Grace’s position at the back of Iota Team’s position, that charging Gaza would have to get past Jason and Allister to reach her.

Grace broke left quickly to get away from Jules’s shots, but had to quickly bring up her left forearm shield to block the last of the three. The armament warped and slagged partially as it took the brunt of a powerful knuckle buster. Rusty’s shots were wild enough that dodging Jules was sufficient for dodging Rusty.

Grace remained hanging back, keeping Jason and Allister in front of her as she continued firing her beam rifle at Jules in short intervals. She had no intention of getting tangled any deeper, especially since Buxoro Team was apparently withdrawing, finally.

((Grace still shooting at Jules))

* * *

- Titans Taskforce Echo Vicinity -
- Delta Team -

Leandro eyed the situation rapidly. Echo’s retreating suit teams appeared to have trouble spots in two particular areas: Herakles Team was still snarled up in AEUG’s clutches, while Iota and Buxoro Teams apparently had their hands full with Axis mobile suits.

Taking only a fraction of a second to decide, Leandro called to his teammate, “Kyle, shift your fire to cover Iota Team. I’ll cover Herakles.”

While saying this, Leandro already had his crosshairs locked onto the general area where Hizacks were duking it out with Nemos and Diases. The radome collected target data as well as it could at the extreme range and combat-level Minovsky density. The Barzam Extra had quite possibly the most powerful MS-borne sensor equipment of its time, but even at such superlative power it was no small matter to distinguish the flitting specks. In these conditions, the pilot had to make some judgment calls and half-guesses.

Which is exactly what Leandro did when he felt confident that what were apparently several Nemos and a red Rick Dias were far enough away from the Hizacks to be safe. Without any further hesitation, he let loose with a powerful red bolt toward the central mass of the AEUG units.
