MAJOR UPDATE

The Macross Mecha Manual is back with a bang. Today features a major update with 48 new profiles. Free from the demands of the VF-1 and all the numerous VF-1 variants, I'm now able to fill out some of the other sections. The focus of this update is Capital Ships and Vehicles though naturally new mecha have been added as well. You'll also find a few older profiles have been updated and visitors who suggested changes will notice some of their ideas implemented. I'd like to thank all the visitors for their feedback and especially say thanks for all your positive comments.

This update also features the debut of two new Macross sections, Macross Zero and Macross Plus. Also, a special Features section has been added and some minor corrections/revisions have been made to the entire website.

The jewel of the update: the SV-51 from Macross Zero, featured in three different color schemes and one variant.

MAJOR UPDATE

Once again the Macross Mecha Manual is updated with more exciting mecha from the Macross universe. This update features 40 new profiles as well as revisions for a few existing entries. The success of the Macross Mecha Manual has been very apparent and fan reaction has been almost universally positive. As such the website will continue to expand as much as the mecha material allows. The focus of this update is Vehicles and Valkyries.

Two more new Macross sections open with this update, Flashback 2012 and Macross 7.

Lastly, I’ve opened the Humor section with some parody posters designed just for Macross fans. These “Macross Motivational Messages” are a small series of 15 posters that I hope make you all laugh or at least chuckle.

The standout of this update: the VF-11 from Macross Plus and Macross 7 featured in two different color schemes and two variants.

MAJOR UPDATE

Once again, the Macross Mecha Manual is a buzz with new content. This update features (40) new profiles and marks the final update that will complete the original mandate of the Macross Mecha Manual; the profiling of mecha from Super Dimension Fortress Macross, Macross: Do You Remember Love?, Macross Flashback 2012, Macross Plus and Macross Zero. While the Macross Zero section stands as incomplete it represents the limit of the high-resolution Macross Zero line art to which I have access. Until a proper book of Macross Zero line art is released, that section will likely remain as is.

Having stated that, be assured the Macross Mecha Manual is continuing. Truth be told, I've become somewhat addicted to the work and while I may have exhausted my Macross Zero line art, I've yet to exhaust the totality of the other series line art. I've plans to add more mecha, improve some older profiles, add more line art and also include some new features (specifically a schematic section to showcase the many high-resolution pictures of the Valkyries in fighter mode).

I'd also like to take this opportunity to formally request submissions of Macross Zero and Macross Flashback 2012 black and white line art. If you have access to a scanner that can do at least 600 DPI, I'll accept high-resolution line art in whatever format you can offer, even jpeg if need be. Specifically, I'm hoping to obtain large enough pictures of the individual Macross Zero line art from old japanese magazines (probably requires 1,200 DPI for those small pictures) and I'm also interested in ANY line art from the Macross Flashback 2012 fan books (specifically high-resolution scans of the Megaroad and any character/equipment scans). If you have the means and would love to see some more Macross on the Macross Mecha Manual, please contact me.

MAJOR UPDATE

I am pleased to once again release more updates for the Macross Mecha Manual. Today features 30 new profiles but the primary focus of this update is to properly revise and correct existing content. The website has been a learning experience and vehicle profiles have been refined as more were released. Looking back it's clear some of the first profiles suffer from low resolution scans, poor quality colored art, grammatical/spelling errors and a lack of organization. To correct these shortcomings, the four main VF-1 profiles (VF-1A, D, J and S) have been completely revised as well as most of the other VF-1 entries. I encourage all fans to take another look at these updated profiles. Some improvements may not be obvious, but at the very least visitors will appreciate the new content and organization.

Along with the major revisions comes the new color code system, implemented in the VF-1 profiles and the Macross 7 section. The color code system is designed to draw the reader's attention to the technical details of vehicle variants that differ from the standard model. I'm hoping this improves reading and quick reference. The system is just a test at this point and I'm eager for feedback. I think it's a great new addition, but some may find legitimate fault. Please feel free to share your thoughts.

This update has debuts-a-plenty with the new Books section, the Macross Game and Advanced Valkyrie section and the Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ) section. I'm also happy to add another hilarious feature to the Humor section titled "Pimp My Valkyrie." Last but not least, the holy grail of line art has been found! Totoro242 of the Macross World message boards has provided a high resolution scan of the elusive Megaroad-01 line art (which I have now colored). A big thanks to this generous Macross fan!

MAJOR UPDATE!
Macross Mecha Manual Version 2.0 (Our One-Year Anniversary!)

It's 2008 and the Macross Mecha Manual celebrates it's first birthday! It's been a lot of work and I want to thank all the fans for visiting and supporting this website (including patiently enduring the recent server switch which had us down for a while). Today the Macross Mecha Manual not only features an update with 50 new profiles but also a website-wide revision making this one of the most important updates in the M3's history. Without a doubt, 2008 is going to be a big year for Macross as the newest animated television series in the franchise, Macross Frontier, begins airing in Japan in April. This past December fans were treated to a special promotional release of the first episode of Macross Frontier and the reviews have been largely positive from the fans and the larger anime community. It's an exciting time for Macross and I hope this website helps fans world wide enjoy the newest jewel of this long time science fiction franchise!

This update also adds Information Headers to all sections of the website. The headers feature production information and relevant trivia for each Macross anime. These headers will help website navigation as well as provide fans and non-fans alike with relevant reference points for properly placing each vehicle within the larger Macross continuity.

The new Macross production titled Macross Frontier now has a very rudimentary section on the Macross Mecha Manual. It is my hope that line art for Macross Frontier is made available much faster and in a more comprehensive book than that which was published for Macross Zero.

Macross World forum member Dante74 has created Custom Banners for each section of the website as well as new Navigation Buttons. I am extremely pleased to present his work and hope that these new additions make the website even more enjoyable for our visitors. Lastly, the for fans only section debuts which contains fan-made line art, custom color schemes, variant squadron colors, wallpapers, line art comparison pictures and other miscellaneous goodies. Due to visitor feedback, I've simplified the website by relocating Features and Humor (along with the sub-sections) into the new for fans only section.

MAJOR UPDATE!

This update of the Macross Mecha Manual features 33 new profiles. The focus for this update is revision to the Macross Frontier profiles, completing the profiles for large space ships and introduction of the Macross II section. The front page has been reorganized to accommodate the new Macross II Index Button and to help maintain a smooth page layout the For Fans Only section has graduated to a large Index Button.

Experimenting with Photoshop, I've found a better method to color for glass. As a result, I've re-finished several large ships with domes and transparent enclosures that were initially poorly colored. The Macross 7, Macross 5, Riviera Resort Ship and the Megaroad-01 (including the Flashback 2012 Banner) have all been updated with new colors. Lastly, the Header and Footer Menu Bars have been replaced in every profile, thus creating a common button style across the whole website (thanks again to Dante74 of the Macross World forums).

Minor Update

Just a minor update to the Macross Mecha Manual, featuring only 14 new profiles. The update consists mainly of corrections and revisions. A portion of the existing artwork contains color errors that occur when a Photoshop PSD file is down-converted to a 256 color gif. I've corrected many of these color errors for the VF-1 Super variants, the VF-11C Protect Armor, the YF-19/VF-19A Excalibur artwork, and all the Queadluun-Rau (Film Version) pictures (both DYRL and Macross 7) feature a completely new line art scan and coloring. Many VF-1 profiles have minor color/shading improvements and the weapons/equipment pictures have been refined where needed.

Significant new material is found in the For Fans Only section. A new Thrust-to-Weight Ratio Chart has been added (thanks to Dante74) providing a rough performance comparison of the variable fighters. A new subsection of For Fans Only appears for Animated Diagrams that highlight important details of the various valkyries. New and veteran Macross fans alike are encouraged to take a look at these animated pictures to appreciate the detail that goes into Shoji Kawamori's magnificent mechanical creations. The final addition is a complete revision of the Macropedia section with improved navigation and well over double the content.

Major Update - Ride The Lightning!

This update to the Macross Mecha Manual features plenty of new content to be found site-wide, including many additions to the For Fans Only Section. The new content includes Size Comparison Charts, new Color Code Transformation Guides and new Schematic Diagrams added to the various profiles. Most of these latest additions (particularly the Battroid size comparison chart) have been a dream project of mine since I first built the Macross Mecha Manual. It is my hope this new content provides insightful analysis and answers many fan questions about the mechanical creations of Macross.

The highlight of this update is a major revision of the VF-4 Lightning III variable fighter. Both the roughly sketched Battroid art and the somewhat limited colors were a less than ideal presentation of the initial VF-4 profile. Thus I spent two days applying my meager artistic skills into finalizing the VF-4 line art. While not perfect, the result greatly improves the VF-4 Battroid. In addition, I have recolored both Battroid and Fighter modes in a more pleasing stylized motif, I've revised the Flashback 2012 Index Button accordingly and added colored schematics to the VF-4 profile. Additional electrifying goodness can be found in the Game & Advanced Valkyrie Section featuring the Max and Milia variants of the VF-4G Lightning III.

I have also added purple colored text to a few profiles which denotes newly translated Macross Chronicle Information. Lastly, I am sending out a THANK YOU to Dante74 of the Macross World forums; yet again he has assisted me in building more content for the M3. Dante74 worked to add titles, backgrounds, borders and scales lines to the size comparison charts and turned a good concept into a great final result. This update includes only 8 new profiles.

Update Addendum
Okay, I could have sworn I updated the Factory Satellite, but it appears I did not. I have now done so. Taking direction from the Factory Satellite picture in the Macross Chronicle issue #5, I also updated my Factory Satellite colored line art with my own version done in a similar style. Also, I forgot to add the Macross 7 fleet count numbers from issue #3 into the New Macross Class Colonization Ship profile, but I've now done so. Lastly, with an official size for the Macross 7 fleet, we can now determine the size of Chlore's Meltran fleet from Macross 7 Encore: Fleet of the Strongest Women. I've added the trivia to the profiles for both the Queadluun-Rau Chlore Fleet and the Meltran Gunboat Chlore Fleet. Major Update

This update to the Macross Mecha Manual features 25 new profiles. For the sake of completeness, I am adding profiles with uncolored lineart (ex. Destroid Monster MK I). I feel it is important to include more mecha for the sake of visitor interest even if quality line art scans of these mecha cannot be obtained at this time. It is perhaps better to have an incomplete profile on the Macross Mecha Manual rather than no profile at all. Also, if visitors note the lack of a proper scan for a particular mecha, they may have the means to obtain a proper high resolution scan and would assist my website by submitting pictures.

I've received fan requests for Macross Chronicle scans and now is as good at time as any to state why most of the series will not appear on this website. Since the Macross Chronicle is in publication, I will NOT be posting any marquee art pieces from the series (such as the Temjin Hidetaka fold outs). In regards to the remaining artwork, I will be posting mostly low resolution scans from the Chronicle, unless the artwork was previously released on the Macross Frontier official website or in Japanese hobby magazines. Eventually the low resolution scans will be upgraded to high resolution, but only once publication of the Macross Chronicle has ceased. I realize some fans may be disappointed, but a major part of the Macross Mecha Manual is promotion of the Macross franchise and to do that, we fans must ensure products like the Macross Chronicle remain viable during publication. Once product runs are over, the art history of Macross can be archived for posterity. But until then, please pay for the quality Macross products legally to ensure more Macross is made in the future.

I've tested several pages in all the sections to make sure everything is working and I'm happy to say the website appears to be functioning normally. There may be left over bugs or the odd missing image or two, but most of it looks good. If there are any problems, please feel free to send me notice. Again, I apologize for any inconvenience. Hopefully the new server functions well and the updated material will serve as a compensation for any inconvenience. Thank you.

Note: I still have yet to go through my PM box and answer all the messages people have sent me. Once I get the chance, I will do so. Most of the message appear to be many months old, but I will briefly respond to each message anyway.

Major Update
Macross Mecha Manual is now on a new server

Welcome back to the new home for the Macross Mecha Manual. I apologize to any worried fans regarding the brief undeclared shutdown of the Macross Mecha Manual that happened just recently. We have had to switch internet providers and our old site went down a little faster than anticipated. However, thanks to Seto Kaiba we have found a new home on the internet. While I haven't been actively working on this website for some time, I did complete a significant amount of work last year prior to my extended absence. This update to the Macross Mecha Manual features 12 new profiles and all previously unreleased work.

Very special thanks go out to Uxi and Ignacio Ocamica of the Macross World forums for graciously offering webspace for the M3. And of course, thanks again to Seto Kaiba.

This previously unreleased material was a major housekeeping effort, featuring extensive revision of colored art and replacement of uncolored line art pictures with revised art. In the past I have often gone to excess with vivid colors, a bad habit which has accidentally produced an almost strobe-like glow for some of the more colorful palettes. To correct this, I have desaturated and/or darkened many colors schemes, especially those using a majority of red or yellow. These revisions also help to differentiate like-colored mecha while producing an appearance more true to the animation. The VF-17 Nightmare profiles will be the most recognizably corrected art as part of this update. In the non-colored portions of the website, I have deleted hundreds of individual pieces of black and white line art that were terribly sub-par. These old pictures have been replaced with superior quality scans and the art has been collected into far fewer pictures per profile (in some cases, only a single picture for each entry). This method of presenting line art is more efficient, saves space, makes navigation easier and permits fans to examine/compare vehicles from multiple angles on a single page.

Unfortunately updates have been few and demands of life have called my attention elsewhere for this past year. I will make every attempt to continue revising and updating the Macross Mecha Manual. However please be aware at this time I am still unable to prioritize the M3 and future updates will appear infrequently. I'd like to thank you all for your concern and support during our recent technical troubles. Your continued interest in the Macross Mecha Manual makes the effort worthwhile.

Major Update - The Zentradi Invasion!

Today a Zentradi-themed update to the Macross Mecha Manual is complete and features 27 new profiles. The focus of this latest update is new Zentradi artwork as well as new Macross Chronicle trivia and numerous other corrections/revisions.

A concerted effort was made in this update to improve the VF-25 Messiah profiles in the Macross Frontier section. The inclusion of revised color art, additional black and white line art, color code transformation guides and fighter schematics should elevate the VF-25 Messiah profiles to a level that equals the comprehensive format of the other hero Valkyries featured on the Macross Mecha Manual.

As the many temporary Zentradi-themed banners and buttons would indicate, this update also features a major overhaul of many Zentradi vehicles and mecha. The special theme will draw attention to the newly colored Zentradi mecha and hopefully the improved art helps maintain the uniqueness of the Macross Mecha Manual. The many Zentradi-style graphics on the website will be featured for only a short while after which the Macross Mecha Manual will revert to its traditional appearance. Enjoy!

Complete Revision of the "Icons of Mecha" profiles, now moved to a dedicated page titled More Mecha. All profiles have been revised, the Patlabor, Nausicaä and Cowboy Bebop colored art have all been improved and new profiles have been added for The Five Star Stories and Mobile Suit Gundam.

Revised all text-based pages (Updates, FAQ, Books, etc) with new HTML tables that format all paragraphs to no more than 1,000 pixels in width. While this new code does increase vertical scrolling it should make reading the website much easier, especially for those users operating with the new high definition standard (1,920 x 1,200) wide screen monitors.
