Watch Frontier, instead. It's far better. In fact, it's arguably better than the original Macross.

Failing that, watch the new Gulliver's Travels starring Jack Black. It's a better Macross movie than 7.

1.) It had a giant.
2.) It had a love triangle.
3.) Someone created a transformable mecha to fight the giant.
4.) The war was ended with a song.

That is a perfect Macross movie.

I have watched some of Frontier, but I don't consider a loli going after some giant robo Kabuki star man-child while rivaling with some overglorified Hooters waitress to be a love triangle (or a setup for a good mecha show).

That said, it was okay, but I couldn't get into it due to its references to whatever happened in SDF Macross or Macross 0 or Macross Blahblahminmay.

All I want from this RPG is fun. I'll go along with anything, but let's try to keep our biases to ourselves.

A good opinion Rob. And just so everyone knows, if this idea were to go forward, the most of Macross 7 you'll see out of it would be Nightmares, Excaliburs, Thunderbolts, Sturmvogels and the odd reference or two. More to follow.

Oh and if there were to be any singing, someone else is going to have to handle that because I can't write lyrics to save my life.

*raises eyebrow* Not sure if my interest or amusement is more piqued. And that's before the question of "what genre(s) and type of act" is brought up.

Well since Fire Bomber has been the only Rock band in Macross so far...

I still have a little work to do on mine, I just caught up with Ghostbusters in theater and Batman: Arkham City!

We know it can take time to work this sort of stuff out, so feel free to keep working on whatever ideas are being developed. At this point, we're in no rush to get things started, particularly since we don't want to hurry anyone along as they work out an idea, but we don't want people to forget about those ideas either. :P

My proposal (politely hidden for wordswordswords)

Spoiler: show
Armored Trooper VOTOMS: Pathway to Darkness

Story: Caught in the midst of the Hundred Year's War, the planet Scarax was the sight of a bloody stalemate between Balarant and Gilgamesh forces. Both sides remained locked in brutal back-and-forth trench warfare across the planet. That was, until the battle of Kharos Plain. After a long day of fighting, both sides took up shelter against Scarax's brutally cold nights. But that did not sit well with Colonel Varg Betros, Gilgamesh Soldier and Ex-Red Shoulder. Betros, under the cover of night, opened fire on his own "cowardly" forces, pushing them out of cover and hopefully to attack the enemy. However, hearing the gunshots, Balarant forces launched an attack, catching the Gilgamesh soldiers off-guard, ending in a slaughter. Small pockets of Gilgamesh groups retreated, and Betros vanished, taking with him his custom Scopedog and a small force of intensely loyal soldiers, some ex-Red Shoulders themselves.

Now, the Gilgamesh Confederacy has deployed Advanced Recon Force 356, a small, elite task force to Scarax. While many Gilgamesh forces are already abandoning the planet, ARF-3356 has one simple goal: find Betros and his followers, and terminate them with extreme prejudice.

Gameplay: The first batch of PCs would make up ARF-356, with newcomers joining as refugees from the conflict. The PCs don't have to just be Scopedog pilots: while the Scopedog has the most versatility and options for customization, they could also pilot a Standing Tortoise, or maybe later go out on foot with an Anti-AT Rifle (A la Armor Hunter Merrowlink). I'm considering using a point-buy system for AT customization, so we don't get swamped with missile/dakka-spamming mechs.

All the action would by PC vs. GM. Some episodes would revolve around ARF-356 having to deal with the advancing Balarant threat or Betros's minions, while others would involve down-time at rest stops, searching for clues about Betros's location, or braving the dangerous conditions of Scarax. (It's mostly inspired by the Russian/European Taiga) PVP action would likely be non-existent, unless someone happens to be a double agent...

So yeah, that's a rough draft. Any thoughts/opinions?

You shall have your wish sir, because...

Macross: The 106th Fleet
Firstly, upon further reflection, I think this would work great as a players vs. GM game. In fact I would prefer it this way but I can work with the other way.

It is the year 2051. The 106th Autonomous Fleet responds to a distress call from the Macross 19 colonization fleet, currently in the newly-discovered Alterra system. Their escort armada has been decimated by rogue Zentradi (possibly Meltrandi as well) and they need assistance in case they are attacked again as they attempt to settle the Alterra system and make first contact with its inhabitants.

The 106th fleet itself is somewhat of a ragtag collection. Because of the nature of its mission, the ships that comprise the fleet are often far past their scheduled maintenance dates. They have to take what they can get, so you'll see a couple of ARMD-class carriers flying around, as well as a few Oberth-class frigates (heavily modified and somewhat clunky), as well as newer ships like Guantanamo-class stealth carriers and Uraga-class Escort Battle Carriers and a couple of the brand new stealth cruisers. It is led by the venerable SDFN-10 Prometheus, one of the twelve mass-produced Macross-class ships that were built directly after Space War I (SDF Macross and DYRL). It was built all the way back in 2025 but still packs a mean punch, especially with its Main Cannon/Macross Cannon. It is the flagship of the fleet and carries about 400 Valkyries, Destroids and Ghosts altogether. Her crew is very proud of her as a carrier of the Macross legacy and she is captained by the leader of the fleet, Admiral George Armstrong.
This alone is not what makes the 106th unusual but it is also the Zentradi and Meltrandi battleships that are part of the fleet. The 106th includes several Thurvel-Salan Class and Queadol-Magdomilla Class battleships and Quiltra-Quelamitz Class gunboats led by a Nupetiet-Vergnitzs Class Fleet Command Battleship, captained by Colonel Kortai. The Meltrandi ships include several gunboats, destroyers, cruisers and battleships led by one of the signature flagship-class Meltran command ships. The Meltran portion of the fleet is under the command of Colonel Areea (are-ee-ah).
The Zentradi of the fleet are pleasant enough in their own right but are made up of some of the more war-like Zentradi that don't get completely "culture-shocked." That doesn't mean that they're uncontrollable, on the contrary, Colonel Kortai expects the best out of his men.
The Meltrandi of the fleet are a portion of the Chlore Fleet that the Macross 7 ran into more than five years ago. They're a lot more affable than their Zentradi counterparts but don't get them started on Fire Bomber or Basara Nekki unless you want to endure a lot of fangirl gushing and squealing. Note: Unlike the rest of the galaxy, most of the Zentradi and Meltrandi in the fleet are full-size so keep out from under their feet please. :)
Also due to the roaming nature of their mission and the Prometheus having the only factories, the 106th occasionally has to beg, borrow and cannibalize fighters and mechs for its pilots. Often you'll see fleet patrols made up of VF-4G Lightning III's, VA-3 Invaders, VF-5000B Star Mirages, VF-9 Cutlass's, VF-11 Thunderbolts, and VF-14 Vampires, as well as the latest and greatest VF-17 Nightmares, VF-19 Excaliburs and VF-22 Sturmvogels, though these last three types of Valkyries are reserved for the fleet's elite pilots. There's even a squadron in the fleet, Ragnarok Squadron, that operates some heavily customized VF-1 Strike Valkyries. The 106th also maintains a number of Destroids because in the words of Admiral Armstrong, "Everyone is so busy looking for those pesky Valkyries and Zentradi power armors in the sky that when those Destroids sneak up on 'em and cut 'em to ribbons it's pretty damn hilarious actually. Although a Monster can't 'sneak' worth a damn. Gotta be careful with those." The 106th also fields Glaugs, Fighter Pods, Nousjadeul-Ger and Quedluun-Rau power armors and the "New" Battle Suit
All total, the 106th Fleet only numbers 100 ships but they're fierce fighters all. Cross them at your own peril.

Part 2 tomorrow...

After having seen the second Macross Frontier movie, we could alter this scenario to where the characters were part of SMS. We could even still have older fighters considering that good 'ole Isamu Dyson showed up in his YF(?)-19.

Just a heads up for everyone, we're planning on finally getting around to doing a poll later on this month. We're aiming to have this second RPG picked around the start of next month, so for anyone planning to submit an idea to us, you should probably have it ready in the next two weeks or so.

I figure I'll start this now, so anyone who wants to submit an idea can begin doing so by PMing me their ideas for the voting thread. Just make sure you send your idea using the Code tags, and if you need to resend it for whatever reason, make it clear in the subject line or outside the tags or whatever and I'll use that and delete the older version.

Also, once again, make sure you've got a GM lined up to run the game, should it be picked. I'm going to assume whoever sends me the PM is going to be the GM. If that isn't the case, make it clear somewhere in there who will be the person running things.

I'll be taking submissions for about a week or so, depending on how many we get. I'll give people a day or two notice before we'll start the poll, so keep an eye on this thread for that if you want to submit something late or want to know when the poll will start. And as usual, if anyone has any questions about anying, ask here or PM me or whatever. :P

We now return you to regularly scheduled programming, already in progress. 8)

I guess I can ask this here, but do you guys want me to alter my Macross 106th Fleet idea so we're all working for SMS and that way people can fly VF-25s if they want to?

No, arbiter, that is silly.

Besides, the VF-25, according to your time frame of the game, won't be developed for another couple of years at-least.
