AMV Question

I've come up with what I think would be a good concept for a Gundam AMV using an MP3 and a show that I own on disc. After looking through several 'how to' guides, I'm worried about whether ripping or capturing footage would damage my DVD's in any way. I figured I could just gather online videos but that would take forever in my case. So anyway, to DVD or not to DVD?

Moved to A&M, and I don't see how ripping something from a DVD would damage it in any way.
It's not a literal physical ripping after all.
