Since I seem to be the creepy fourm noob or such, and I've been giving some adive like I know what I'm doing I guess it's only fair that you guys get to make fun of my designs. 99.9% of what I post up here will be from an text based rpg I run. http://i2.photobucket.com/albums/y25/cr ... ollyon.gif (Feb 23, 2008) Apollyon: a light weight mecha that excelled in quickly closing and delivering rapid fire strikes to enemies. One of the PCs during the S2 Arena phase of the MLF. http://i2.photobucket.com/albums/y25/cr ... hazeta.jpg (Feb 23, 2008) Alpha-Zeta: a heavy mecha that walks into combat wielding a large one handed axe. Styled around One Year War Zeon designs at the request of its player. Participated in arena combat during the second season. http://i2.photobucket.com/albums/y25/cr ... /rohin.jpg (Feb 23, 2008) Rohin, A light mecha developed around high speed melee combat with a foucs on the katana. It mounted a miniaturized Gatling gun inside its right forearm (similar to Gundam Alex). Due to the inclusion of a ranged weapon the mecha couldn't be used within the arena during the second season. It's player instead had Alpha Zeta for arena use. http://i2.photobucket.com/albums/y25/cr ... ioroid.jpg (Feb 23, 2008) A Early design of mine, doesn't belong to the MFL universe. Simply a stand alone sketch. http://i2.photobucket.com/albums/y25/cr ... FL/gpa.jpg (Feb 23, 2008) General Purpose Android (GPA): originally produced solely by MetalWorks, GPAs where consumer level androids that where used for everything from heavy manual labor to cooking to watching the kids. http://i2.photobucket.com/albums/y25/cr ... ragtop.jpg (Feb 23, 2008) http://i2.photobucket.com/albums/y25/cr ... bottom.jpg (Feb 23, 2008) Ragnarok: A very old mecha by the time its discovered in the MFL, It's of Sol Human (Earthling) design and is one of the now fabled nuclear powered mecha from the wars that occurred during the settlement of near earth space. One of it's most distinguishing features is the mecha's control system which is really a preserved human brain that controls the mecha as it's own body.

Overall I'd say you did a nice job on all of them though.

Your drawings are great! The GPA reminds me of Elites from Halo, though there are only a few similarities.

Ah, so now we get to see. These are all very well done, Crash. I'm thoroughly impressed. From the looks of things though, you do more sketching than producing finished works? That's cool though. It's the nature of the pencil. I really like the posture you've used in your mecha. It's all very expressive.
I like the katana mount on Rohin's forearm. Devil May Cry? That influences me, too, as a matter of fact. "You are not worthy as my opponent...!" I love that line.
Keep up the great work, and show us some more stuff! I'm working hard to improve, too.

Josh: Human-like is a good way to discribe how these things are intended to move, and I go so far as to point out that man/machine interface technologies are begining to come into popularity among mehca designers and pilots in the universe these guys exist in.
Draco: What even funnier is that the colors I chose for that particure image (which I did for a school project) where blue and an almost covenat purple. Considering that I was a Halo addict at the time I'm betting that some of the coventate design did play a part in the process.
Seraphic:
The last time I realy sat down and did some serious colored images was in high school, that's some four years ago and was for a similar rpg. my issue came with the fact that I don't have the patience to ink real well and trying to lift line art out of my pencil work is done the same way I learned with inking. the results however are ...less then great.
Right now I'm mainly focused on geting the designs hashed out before I crack the whip and go back to photoshop coloring.
Devil may cry wasn't the insperation for the sword sheath, as amatter of fact I'm not even sure which devil may cry has a sword steathed like that. A ninja-like version of the Strike gundam that Michael Frchtenmayer created and using his impressive gunpla techniques was the inspration for the sword sheath's location he himself states that the idea came from yet another source.

-New stuff-----
A few things to point out is that many of these mecha designs are based on the units that PCs use in my running rpg. They all have certian similarities with each other. liek for instance the cockpit is located in the upper torso behind the "breast bone" which serves as a final guard agianst direct attacks from the front. and unlike mobile suits the cockpit extends out the back for boarding and disembarking. and like the Evangelions the entire cockpit block can be jetsioned in an emergency.
Reference image:
http://i2.photobucket.com/albums/y25/cr ... pits-1.jpg
the mecha themselves are somewhere between 36 nd 48 feet tall on average so that actually puts them at a smaller size then your average gundam. this is probably the single most likely thing that will change with the general mecha since I'm just horrible with figuring out relative size of these guys in the enviroment. and it's currently based on the room the cockpit takes up in the torso and the scale of their heads vs human height.
As far as power sources, they gather pure energy from a subspace plane that is also tied to faster then light travel. specialized thrusters expell amounts of this energy for propulsion comparable to chemical rockets many times large then themselves.

Oh and since It was mentioned.
an Inked and colored piece from back in high school:

and more that's not inked:
http://i2.photobucket.com/albums/y25/cr ... sleepr.gif
and a non mecha piece that's not inked either:
http://i2.photobucket.com/albums/y25/cr ... thseal.gif
And adding in Two extra ones
http://s2.photobucket.com/albums/y25/cr ... r-Bust.gif
A little image I made a while back for a friend (same person is the PC who piloted the Alpha Zeta and Rohin mechas. yes he's got a soft spot for char too )
http://i2.photobucket.com/albums/y25/cr ... mmecha.jpg
and a quick mecha sketch I did at 1 a.m. just trying to keep my pencil going. I already know it looks funky, and oddly positioned.

Crash,
I meant to comment ages ago, but for some stupid reason I haven't. You have my apologies.
Anyhow, I think these production sketches are very interesting. The TX series has a very streamline and organic frame, but I'm jusy wondering how tall these guys are. I do have a small complaint that the heads are not quite distinguished or impressive. Yes, they do compliment the body frame very well, but perhaps some of the units could use a more interesting head design? You don't have to tailor your work according to my opinions though, so feel free to ignore that. =)
Yes, I was actually laughing out loud at that anchoring picture without even knowing for sure what was so damn funny. Maybe it's the way he's hanging on to the pole so...passionately.
The last one also looks very good, but what the hell did that to him? And again, the expression on the face is good, but overall the head doesn't seem to fulfill the potential it could have. I want to know what this one will look like if it ever gets finished. I also get many wallpaper ideas for my stuff, but I never get around to it. Planning wallpapers is actually pretty tough.
So it's been a long time actually since your last update. Have you got any more work to show us from then on? =o

About the heads:
most of the mecha ive been showing are the base line grunt types. the ace/hero/unque mecha all have much more detailed and interesting head designs.
Examples include
The Alden 00
http://i2.photobucket.com/albums/y25/cr ... lden00.jpg
Sketch
http://i2.photobucket.com/albums/y25/cr ... en-002.gif
5 second color (the crest is going to be compeltely removed)
Apollyon (I know I posted him already but...)
http://i2.photobucket.com/albums/y25/cr ... ollyon.jpg
Sketch
http://i2.photobucket.com/albums/y25/cr ... ollyon.gif
Colored
And the oddly named yoshimoto
http://i2.photobucket.com/albums/y25/cr ... oskech.jpg
This image is probably 1/2 the hieght of a stand sheet and was done very quickly. while not much detail was put into the intial sketch i'm sure this points out a little better the "normal" way I draw mecha. Yoshimoto is one of the unique machines btw. it is horibly in need of a renaming.
As I stated before these guys are roughly 36 to 48 feet tall and generaly shorter then most gundams. for refrence a typical 3 story build would end up being close to their height.
the Idea with the TX-20 Achoring line image was to show the mecha using the Achoring line, In truth Iwasn't even thinking about what it was going to be holding onto untill I was chiefly done with the image. the Line is ment mainly to be used by mecha to connect to their mothership, and allow for quicker retrivals in the case the mecha is disabled by the end of combat. that said, the postioning of the line on the mecha's torso was based off the mountain climber's rig.
As for what beat the TX-20 that bad in the TX-20-Beated-WIP, that kind of damge is typical for a mecha to incure if it's caught in the path of a guass cannon (i.e. the missing lower leg) where as most of the other damage done to it is probably from more standard sources, like machine gun fire and missiles.
http://i2.photobucket.com/albums/y25/cr ... himoto.jpg
Another picture of a damaged mecha, this time Yoshimoto, damaged in melee combat. I believe this was one of two images sworing the end of a duel.
As soon as my scaner decides to work I'll add some new work.

Hey, are these two parts of the same picture? From the angles, it looks like they could be going after each other. =p
I really like the second drawing, but the ankles need work like you said. The first drawing has generally good work on its ankles, so why not just import that to the second one? The first drawing has good detail, but with that stance he looks completely open to attack!
Skirt armor is for protecting hips. Once one of your TX's gets its hip joint dislocated by a random machinegun bullet, then you will understand, haha. But yeah, I totally get where you're coming from. We've had this conversation before I think. Everyone seems to have skirt armor for no reason because no one ever seems to get hit there. The only instance I remember is when the Nu Gundam got its crotch slashed through right down the middle by Char. Amuro should just be thankful he wasn't using MT system.
Are the TX models the general model for every party or do different factions employ different machines?

the two aren't from the same page or even meant to be part of one image. Dev iamge 03, the first image is missing the left hand and the shield, it's leading with it's shield arm, so no it's not completely open to attack. If you where talking about Dev page 01, yes he's completely open to attack his left arm is behind him and it was never intended to have a shield, on the plus side what ever he's shooting at is going to get kicked/landed on as well.
Trisystem Exchange's mecha, the TX-10, TX-20, and TX-30 are extremely common and often server on multiple sides of a conflict. They represent a very balanced design preforming equally well in a multiude of roles, but as one would guess, it far from the best in any given role.
and ofcourse, heres alittle more.
http://crashlegacy.deviantart.com/art/T ... 4-87507393
You got the TX-20 agian, this time unproportionate. I think the lower body ended up too big and the single arm too small. regardless, that's the style I'm using for the feet. also included in the miade is a assualt rifle designed by another company, a TX head minus the 'helm' and a random TX-20 head.
Now for a few that are a bit different.
these are the mainly the pc characters and a few of the more important npcs in the current adventure.
http://i2.photobucket.com/albums/y25/cr ... Knight.jpg
From left to right, Karsh Sinclair and Jason Knight. two of the PCs, both of which are ofcourse mecha pilots. Karsh is a salvager that got caught up in the adventure via dumb luck. pilots a one of a kind mecha. Jason specalizes in sniping and is an expert when it comes to computers and other eletronics, his mecha is a agile, mecha armed with of course a sniper rifle. Jason is wearing a Service Suit which serves as both a flight uit and light armor.
http://i2.photobucket.com/albums/y25/cr ... berias.jpg
Tiberias Cryoon, one of the PCs, A Maldrian pilot who's a bit of a womanizer. His mecha is unsurprsingly the one carrying the most weapons into battle.
http://i2.photobucket.com/albums/y25/cr ... talven.jpg
One of th NPC pilots that is stationed on the same carrier as the PCs. dispite who I drew her, she's usually very nice. she does a 180 when she's inside the cockpit of a mecha where she becomes deadly serious. She's wearing the base service suit.
http://i2.photobucket.com/albums/y25/cr ... rian02.jpg
Valerian as geneticly altered woman who serves as the leader of the peackeepers on the carrier that the PCs call home. Drawn wearing her service suit that she had outfitted with some extra armoring.
http://s2.photobucket.com/albums/y25/cr ... inal01.jpg
A near barbaric Maldrian female who led a group of muraders with an iron fight untill they encountered the PCs, now she joins their ranks as another Mecha pilot who uses a high speed dual SMG wielding unit. she wears a service suit with armor covering most of her arms and legs. Back when she led the muraderss she disguised herself as a male by adding an armored cloak and specalized helm.

It's been a while since I update/posted and sadly I don't have much to show for it. I managed to some how misplace the pic I was working on and haven't been able to find it since. /sigh. at any rate here's some art.
http://crashlegacy.deviantart.com/art/S ... r-92009817
Starbreaker is insanely fast mecha designed to made long high speed charges into enemy units using it's lance as if it was in a josting match. to round out its armament it has a twin barreled smg mounted in the light shield it carries. the lance itself could be used as a fullblade/greatsword if the mecha was force into substained melee combat.
any ideas on a color scheme for this poor soul? all I know is he's not going to be red or black (if for no other reason because of gundam references)
http://crashlegacy.deviantart.com/art/Leseric-94498274
is one of the more badass mecha it predates all of the current cililzations in the universe and had been left alone until recently unearthed during a achelogical dig. due to time and elements the mecha was exposed to the armor, heck the entire body is brittle. and when its pressed into combat by a novice pilot, it loses it's left forearm ...by punching a mecha in a headlong charge. this is the first mecha attached to my fictional world that is armed with an energy blade.

Heavily influenced? I'd say they'd fit right in with Zeon Mobile Suits!

I've been addicted to wow, I fell back into D&D for a while and so forth. yahda yahda yahda, you guys don't really care. you want one thing and one thing only....art!
Hate to say it but I really haven't had much in the way of mecha drawing done during my little absence however when I realized that Gundam 00 S2 is airing I caught my ass up on the series and as expected snaped into the mecha focused part of my brain. And while I still haven't gotten around to completing the TX-20 (I know, I know how many times will I draw the poor bastard before I've completed it) I decided to work myself into the artistic mind set by coloring some of the stuff I completed right before I switched mindsets.
http://crashlegacy.deviantart.com/art/T ... -102898431
The currently nameless 10th Relic, it was inactive for something like 1 billion years like "Leseric" from my previous post. I have a iching feeling that I'm going to change the green to another color since green is going to be tied to a particular comapany's roll out colors and I don't want any confusion, it doesn't help maters that the mecha's general design style is similar to that companies own.
http://crashlegacy.deviantart.com/art/T ... -102947713
As a mater of fact here's the afforementioned comanies flag ship mecha lines. well only the heads and torso, but oyu get the point. TR mecha are known for being hardy an attribute that comes in handy when they are deployed in the outer rim where spare parts are either subpar or expotentaly more expensive.
http://crashlegacy.deviantart.com/art/U ... -102903703
The first relic (read the discription for more info) this thing was lightly doodled unit that I decided to color on a whim. I'll have to go back and give it a proper drawing one day.

Oh geez, you can color, The ability I seek to establish. =/ I hate coloring, but my sketches are pretty much way better than how I can color. Any tips for how to draw mecha legs along with hands? I'm working on what I call "Exia Zero" I've got a perfect sketch what I'm gonna do but, oh lord, The freaking legs are just oddly shaped or posed! And It seems like you archive your work too, I just got my first real sketch book so im done with sketching in my school books. I also wish I had a scanner to show you what I've got too. =D
