Gundam Revolution Concepts (COLBOLT ACE COLORS!) 6/1/2008

Well we, Vendetta Machine Industries (some of you might have known us from Deviantart: vendettamachineind.deviantart.com) have started a gundam doushinji for a Gundam Project, this here is our collection of concepts, we offically started about a month ago and we are hoping to finish the first chapter of the manga over a sceduele of 6 months due to Real Life relations. Why are we posting our works?

Why for critques of course~ xD we'd prefer to hear the voices of gundam fans around the globe instead of the two of us (at the momment one more member is pending in joining us). We are doing this for the sake of fun and entertainment. Gundam of course has a wide range of audiences and i hope that Gundam Revolution appeals to all of them. I won't post up my novel version just yet, however, i do have the machine specifications which I Will put up. Expect updates over the next few days. Critques are fine, however, at the momment we are pending on Color variations for our Gundams so if you wish to help us with color scheme please do :D We'd appreciate it alot.

Gotta say, I'm very impressed. The cockpit, in particular, shows a great attention to detail and skill at layout. I do like the Burst Gundam at the top of the list, best. Nice use of wheels in the feet, too (a little Captain Gundam in it?).

Keep it up!

It is an interesting machine, a lot of thought has obviously been put into the details.

The mech is described as long range artillery, which I think the style supports (as it looks like it might be a bit awkward in melee). I definitely like the second drawing (Burst-Gundam3), it looks like it's got the mass and shock absorbtion a long-range heavy mech would need. A couple of questions on the design - Is it designed to plant and unload? or "snipe" from afar and rocket quickly to another location? The first drawing has much more of the look of the sniper, whereas the second feels more like an artillery base.

I appreciate the internal diagrams, will this be seen often? I.e: repair bays, damaged armor showing off internals, etc? It's good to know what's under it all, it'll help determine what is a realistic pose for the mech (and what's not :P)

The drawings look great, keep it up!!

EDIT: I slapped some colors in, I made it sorta late UC. What do you think:

wow thank you very much for your replies.

@ Scorn Mandark

Burst Gundam is an artliery unit, unload and fire, a buffed up version of Heavy arms with beam atrillery, the only exception is that all its weaponry is limited to the outer core. The gundam itself has an exterior layer of armor which could be ejected either when all the solid weaponry has run out or the armor has become scrap metal. (you can tell i need to put that in the specs because i have been abit busy with my editor with the chapters XD) We are still working on how to eject the unit or such. We did come into consideration for other packs but that would make it very much like a GAT-X105 Strike Gundam so we scrapped that idea. So Burst Gundam (3) is our confirmed design for the doushinji.

Yes we'll be working on interiors when we get around to it the manga will actually feature repairs and unlike the generic gundam anime and manga we decided that we would show our super weapons till maybe chapter 6 or 7. We actually designed the gundams for more damage taking rather than mobility but we aren't still up to that bit yet hahaha.

Thank you very much for the colors they are awesome! the second color scheme specially. We are refraining from the U.C colors we really want something unique then the standard color scheme for the gundams. I will forward the 2nd scheme to the artist and if we do something about it we'll credit you/ Thank you for the reply and the color variation. (hope we can get an update today as well xD)

@ Oddluck

ahaha the pilot is pretty much the capatain although Burst is the only unit without the Overshield unit (will explain that eventually). Thank you for appreciating our works. The cockpit took 2 days, and we still are not happy with the result, there may be an update on that but we aren't sure yet, maybe we will shift it down to one of the mass produced units. Thank you for taking time to read this post :3

Critiques:

-Burst Gundam Confirmed Designs:

Very nice, I love the amount of detail that was put into the design. I've always loved greebles and it's good to see a mech artist that embraces that. There are some minor perspective issues that I can see, but they can be easily fixed.

-Burst Gundam Variation Designs:

I personally would like to see this one inked. As it stands now it's a good drawing, but it's kind of hard to make out details.

-Burst Gundam Internals:

Although I said that I love greebles, skeletons, especially for mechs, should be simple. There is just too much going on in these drawings, I have no idea how they are supposed to bend or support weight. It could just be your perspective choice on the leg, but there are some white spots that don't have anything in them that are particularly confusing because I have no idea what they are.

-Cockpit:

The cockpit is honestly the worst of the lot. The chair alone has at least three different perspectives placed on it and I have no idea what is going on with the arm. The headrest is supported on something way to flimsy to keep it up.

The console in front of the chair should at least try to be symetrical. Remember, your not just designing something that is supposed to look cool, your also designing something that has to be fluid, functional, and easily accesible because someone, even if they are fictional, is going to have to use it. Right now, it's just a little too confusing to look at. I have no idea what anything is supposed to do.

I love that your trying to make a comic book, I think it's great that people really want to do this. Some of your drawings just need a little work.

Thank you for the critique G.Squirrel

Thank you for the small pointers we wouldnt have realised that, I'll relay that to the artist later. I agree with the cockpit design tho, I'll be making a new cockpit somepoint later this week or the next, depending on how RL fares. The internals I will have to do abit more research, and still abit unconfirmed, will have to relay to my partner on that half.

Thank you for your comment ;3

Wow guys, these designs are looking pretty good. I really like the simplicity of the Cobolt, and that it has a distinctly different style from the Gundam, but is still a very viable design.

I know there were some updates to the internals, and I don't know if these would help at all, but here are some images of the internal frame from a PG Gundam:

The Main Pose
The Arm
The Leg

The Arm:

Side View, Bending
Side View, Bent

Rear View, Down

The Leg:

Like I said, I don't know if you're looking for any reference images, but I tried to show the movement of the parts so that the greebles make a little sense. I've (obviously) got this model as well as a few other PGs that I can take frame pictures of if you'd like (I've been meaning to take these for some time anyways). Good luck!

Hope this helps! I've got a PG Zaku and a PG Zeta, which would you like next? The Zaku has a buggerload of internal detailing, and is a bit "thick" since it's heavy. The Zeta has nicer shock absorbers and hinging for the transformation parts. Keep it up, guys!

EDIT - Are there any specific poses/etc that you would like for reference?
