Tracing?

Hey. I'm just wondering how you guys are going about doing the tracing on your mechs. I'm assuming you use the layers function in Paintshop (or, rather, Illustrator--or whatever it's called). Anyone know of a way to do this with MSPaint? I ask because it seems to lend a nice, original illustration look to your frankens.

Thanks.

I think the easiest way to go about the tracing method is to use Photoshop, Paint Shop Pro, or something like the Gimp.

You'd have a really hard time trying to trace things in a program like MSPaint since it doesn't have the ability to draw on different layers like the programs I mentioned above do.

I suppose if you really really had to use MSPaint then you'd simply take the line tool, set it to the lowest line width, and carefully trace over the original suit. Filling everything in however might be a problem since you can't get rid of the original copy beneath the trace but I don't think it's impossible.

The only unfixable problem I believe you'll have if you use MSPaint is that the trace will undoubtedly come out jagged since I don't think MSPaint has an anti-alising feature to smooth out lines.

Really I don't see why you must use MSPaint when there's free programs like the Gimp you can use which use layers, but meh.

Lol, I think I'm the only frankener who outline's his designs without using layers, cause' I can't use layers and the sort for the life of me. D: either way it's pretty easy to do though and whether you're using Photoshop, ImageReady, Paint Shop Pro or otherwise, it allows for a cleaner, more original design for your franken.

Yeah. Didn't know there were free, worthwhile programs. I'll check out Gimp. Thanks!

I've done a little tracing with MSPaint. Not the prettiest thing in the world. As you mentioned, you cannot simply remove the original image in one click.

Thanks for the info, guys!

There's always Paint.NET, which is pretty much a poor man's Photoshop.

If you really need to trace in MS paint, do it in a wild color that is part of the "16 color image pallate" non-used color that is not in the original image. Once completed - change to sixteen color, remove the rest, then start from there. It's how I did these -

http://lalahsghost.deviantart.com/art/G ... h-56648612

as you can see, they got better and better... I don't think I spent more than 20 min on any of them.
