Out of boredom, I tried my hand at lineart recolors using MS Paint. My first attempt on the RX-78-2 ver. Ka. was a fairly simple one, only painting over the head, torso, and feet, nothing really special. I wish I could have done more though, but the Paint program I use has a severe limit of usable colors, and this was the first time I used a "computer art" program in several years, so I couldn't detail it even if I wanted to: http://i766.photobucket.com/albums/xx30 ... MPAINT.jpgMy second attempt on the Guncannon though, was something I am more proud of. Originally it was only going to keep the black parts, but for the heck of it, I started experimenting with two different shades of blue to create a shading effect, as well as to make it look more super robot-esque. It turned out much better than I expected, which I think is partially due to the "dated" looking design: http://i766.photobucket.com/albums/xx30 ... MPAINT.jpgEDIT: I just finished my third recolor, the Gun-EZ. I had a hard time painting around the beam shield mount, so I just decided to paint over it, as well as some lines, and I'm still trying to master the shading effect. I tried painting around the details for the most part, and adding some lines in order to seperate some parts and create some effects. This is the first one that I decided to completely recolor, and I am actually very shocked at how well it turned out, considering my lack of experience.: http://i766.photobucket.com/albums/xx30 ... AINT-1.jpgI'm wanting to see what you all think, and if it is something I should devote more of my time to.

RX-78-2 ver. Ka. looks good! Only thing is that your choice of such a dark color for the chest area caused you to lose much of the line detail, but other than that it's very well done!

Thanks. I just like dark colored mechs, but the paint program I use has a very limited color selection, and I found that can't really use the fill tool effectively, due to the fact that there are so many pixels of different colors so close together. I tried my hand at detailing using a shade of gray on the Guncannon, though that was when I started using the blues, and it was too late to go back to the chest.

My first non-Gundam related recolor, the Ingram unit 3 movie version. This is a small step back compared to the Gun-EZ, not only due to the fact that the lineart never had a shading effect for me to "trace over" to begin with, but also because I just thought most of the white looked good as it was. The whole purpose of this one was making it look slightly more GM-esque, giving it only the red/gray torso and red feet, and painting over most of the "decals", save for the badge and "3" on the left shoulder. In the middle of progress though, I thought it looked too bland, and now it gives off more of an Airmaster look. Even though there is no shading effect, I used some pink to give the shoulder lights a somewhat reflective look. I also did somewhat similar effect with the "lights" using the "pick color" tool (which I used for most of this recolor) and borrowing three different shades of green from the head camera. http://i766.photobucket.com/albums/xx30 ... Great job on the X3! Colors look very clean and well done. Helps that I always preferred the X1 colors over those of the X3.

Thank you Arvis Taljik. It's good to know that someone likes my work. Anyway: Heavygun in GM Colors + eyes http://i766.photobucket.com/albums/xx30 ... MPAINT.jpgI didn't do as much with this one as I did with my previous ones. I had this GM-style color sceme planned from the start, and stuck with it to the end. I took the reds from the "chin", and the grays for the cockpit hatch from the lower torso. For the sake of experimenting though, I painted over the visor and added a pair of "eyes", so I could create a similar effect to the Javelin's "Zagren Squadron" color scheme. It took me a couple tries to get them to look the way I wanted, but overall, I think the effect looks good. Zaku II Fs in Gato colors http://i766.photobucket.com/albums/xx30 ... PAINT2.jpgMy first attempt at a Zeonic design. It was slightly more difficult than any of my other recolors, though for the life of me, I can't figure out why. I made more screwups on this one than I have on the others. I was originally going to leave the torso in it's original colors, but once I was finished with the rest of the body, I thought it stood out way too much when compared to the other greens I used on the knees, elbows, and feet, so I went back and repainted the entire torso using the greens I had used on the other said parts, but I had to re-add some detail to the end of the skirt armor because I unknowingly painted over it. I wouldn't say it's as good as it was, but I think it'll do.

Freedom in Nu colors http://i766.photobucket.com/albums/xx30 ... MPAINT.jpgMy first non-UC Gundam recolor. It's been getting alot harder to make these custom recolors lately, and my Zaku II and Freedom appear to show it. This time, I did a lot of work on it, and added Amuro's emblem. The large "wings" on the back provided the most challenge, as sometimes I found it difficult to tell between the black parts and the shading effect. I figured the railguns were too much trouble, so I left them mostly unpainted. I had been working on this one on-and-off for the past week, more so than the Zaku II, and every time I came back, the whole image became more "pixelated", including my colors, which made it even harder to find the right colors to work with. I still think it came out good, but I know I could have done better.

http://i766.photobucket.com/albums/xx30 ... MPAINT.jpgIn my laziness-induced hiatus from MS-Paint, I tried my hand at hand painting a broken patchwork Gunpla I had lying around. This Gunpla was cobbled together from two of my oldest Gunpla: a NG 1/144 Shining Gundam's limbs, shoulders, and head, and a NG 1/144 Wing Gundam's Zero's (Okawara) torso, wings, and skirt/hips. What is seen here is pretty much the colors and pattern I used on the Shining Gundam parts, while also sort of working in what colors and patterns I could from the Wing Zero parts, because I still am quite inexperienced with frankening. Once I get the chance, I'll see if I can share a photo or two of this patchwork Gunpla of mine.

http://i766.photobucket.com/albums/xx30 ... MPAINT.jpgI remembered that I haven't done one of these custom MS Paint recolors in a while, and lately, I've been addicted to the Megaman X games, so I combined the two. This is the result: the Gundam Exia Repair II in Zero's colors, or at least as accurate as I can get them. I've also got my first pseudo-franken that's been about half finished for the past few months, and, unfortunately, I don't see it getting done anytime soon, at least not with MS Paint. I think I'm going to need a new art program before I can see myself making any more progress with it.

http://i766.photobucket.com/albums/xx30 ... MPAINT.pngProbably my final "character-based" recolor. It is based on Vile from "Megaman X/Maverick Hunter X". After doing the "Zero Exia", I looked at the lineart for the GM Cannon, and figured that there was no way I couldn't do this recolor, seeing as how X1 Vile is probably my favorite villain from the X series. I used the GM Cannon's "Zeta colors" lineart, which was very grainy compared to most of the other lineart I like to use. Even looking at it now, I'm actually amazed I found all the detail that I did. I think I did more work on this particular recolor than I did on any of the others in that absolutely everything was recolored, except for the inside of the left shoulder, and I had to create extra lines and details to get it to look just right, notably on the knees, shoulders, cannon, waist, and head. I am very happy with the final result. I don't know when I'll be struck with another massive case of boredom, so there's no telling when I'll return to these recolors. With that, I return to yet another potential hiatus.
