Hi!
I've been looking for a community that was more into mecha for a while now and I suppose it took me long enough to join here >_<.
I'm a writer, animator and illustrator. A few years back I started an original mecha series called "Shattered Heaven", it started as a novel series and then became an animated series using Flash. I didn't really start watching Gundam until maybe about the 3rd book, but Gundam and Armored Core are what helped me learn how to draw and animate mecha. So the designs definitely have a feel of the two.
So I figured this would be a proper place to start spreading it around more. XD. This is a lot of stuff I hope you guys don't mind.
Synopsis:
After years of exploration and terraforming, Mars has become stable enough to sustain life. New resources have been uncovered and a race for their exploitation has begun. The year is A.R. 100, a century after humanity's run in with the threat of extinction. War rages on the Martian surface between the two allied governing nations of the world, the Trinity Alliance and the Euro-Asian Pact, while war machine developers such as Genesis reap the benefits with their contribution to the world in the form of mechanized frames; giant robotic power suits piloted by brave men and women. Adam Novus, a teenage intern at Genesis finds himself aspiring for more out of life. Wanting to join his brother Stephen in the Trinity Alliance military as a frame pilot he trains with no restraints. Finally when he is given the opportunity to prove his skill tragedy strikes and he is quickly thrown into the dark, unrelenting chaos that is war.
Some novel audio excerpts - I work with a lot of voice actors and I voice act myself.

Are you from the Armored Core Online forums, per any chance? I remember seeing a lot of your stuff back then when I was part of the community, if you're who I think you are.

Yep, I'm that AK haha. ACO doesn't exist anymore though. They turned it into Mechaverse.Shori wrote:Are you from the Armored Core Online forums, per any chance? I remember seeing a lot of your stuff back then when I was part of the community, if you're who I think you are.
From seeing your sig I remember who you are and the massive franken compendium you had on the forum. Small world.
Re: Original Mecha Series - Art/Animation/Audio Drama
Indeed; though I've moved on from Frankens to Original 3D models now. I see you've gone quite far with your ideas from Armored Core Online to a very successful degree, even selling your novels online; I'd say that's pretty damn good.
Keep up the good work, cause it ain't bad at all.

It's always awesome to meet someone else who's doing some original mecha stuff! Your synopsis sounds intriguing and I like the art you have to go with it. I'm going to download your MP3s and give them a listen. Keep on rockin', I look forward to seeing some more of this!

Thanks, I appreciate that. The audio dramas are a pain, the concept of trying to mix mecha battles with just audio is so damn challenging haha. But it's a lot of fun.adrastuscomic wrote:It's always awesome to meet someone else who's doing some original mecha stuff! Your synopsis sounds intriguing and I like the art you have to go with it. This is based off my novel series which is currently out - http://www.mechatalk.net/viewtopic.php?f=13&t=14916
Some other things. While working on the movie we did a read through session recently, it was hilarious and a lot of fun.

The trailer looks very rough but full of potential.
PLEASE, PLEASE remove those blatant copies of existing animation like those scenes clearly copied from episode 4 of Gundam Unicorn! Your work has enough potential to stand on its own!

Re: Original Mecha Series - Art/Animation/Audio Drama
Don't worry, I said in the description it's not representative of the final product. The Gundam scenes were just a challenge and practice animation. They're not in the actual movie, all of the mech scenes in the movie are written with specifics. I'm self taught so yeah, I learn from animating other things and in the process get a better idea of how to pull it off. Like how Naruto used the fight in the cowboy bebop movie for the fight with Neji, it's more of a nod at how amazing Unicorn's animation is. No copy animation would ever be in the final product. I'm glad you only mentioned it from a technical aspect, people have often been "you use mechs and war, you're ripping off Gundam"....>_>, no lol.
Where I was at a year ago is nothing to where I'm at now in quality, movement and it's thanks to Gundam and learning/practicing what I've watched.

Glad to hear that. I was just shocked to see it.
Your animation is still rather rough but I really love the voice-acting! If you keep the voice-acting at that level and can continue to improve your animation then I am sure this will be amazing!

Animation is continuing learning experience. I'm a writer before an animator so Im trying to get that to match my writing level. I have a friend who went to school and has worked on shows so I'll be following her lead. This was just me to get something going. The voice overs are already recorded so that's staying.
Plus, getting Kamina/Gohan's voice actor as a cameo helps too

Re: Original Mecha Series - Art/Animation/Audio Drama
Update time.
This is the prologue to the first season of the animated web series. Since I'm trying to do this on a rather consistent basis, the animation is going to be pretty simplistic. If you've seen TOME, you can understand what I mean. But I will be doing full animation, just the details will be far from in depth. I'll be saving that sort of quality for the animated moving being developed.
Anyway, Episode 0 is pretty much just the prologue and exposition of the history in this universe along with the actual prologue from the first book.

I am working on Episode 1 as well as a full trailer for the season. Below is the wip of the first scene from Episode 1. It's animation is much more fluid than Episode 0 because I had some random animator epiphany after I finished the prologue.

Also, this is a first draft excerpt of a scene from the movie. Line art quality is a bit different from the actual animated series and backgrounds for it are done in photoshop, not flash.
