JjaroDurandal's Art

Well... here it goes, my first time posting a drawing of mine online. I got my hands on a tablet and have been experimenting with it and GIMP. I'm loving it since I can draw and color with out a lot of the annoyances of physical paper. Since I'm still learning all this, my work isn't the cleanest thing you'll see, but I hope your feed back can help me improve.

Anyway, here's my first posted piece, I'm calling it Gundam Eagle.

Interesting piece. While I am no expert on drawing, this looks very interesting. Though I ask are you going to try doing any Frakens. For that is what I was told to start with before I even started even trying to draw freehand.

Re: JjaroDurandal's Art

I've actually never tried my hand at a franken. I've been drawing since first or second grade, making it about 13 years. I'd just rather work on my drawings then try and learn to do a good franken. Right now a lot of the trouble I'm having is learning to use the tools of gimp. I skipped any tutorials, and rather just picked it up and started messing around.

Looking over eagle again, I'm still not all that happy with the legs or shoulders. If anyone can give me some examples that i might draw inspiration from, I'd be ecstatic. It's just that the shoulders look kinda plane and the legs.... for some reason they're just not looking right. Couldn't come up with anything better.

Anyway, here's what I've got on my next one.

It's supposed to be a stealth type. Kinda got the idea for the style from the f 117. I don't suppose that y'all can tell me how to get the lines to show over a matte black paint job? That's gonna be the worst part for me.

You can try something like this. While not being really black, you cna pass it off as black and still have enough colors in between to show the difference between the detail lines and the paint scheme.

Just making a note that this method of using a dark (almost black) shade of gray for parts intended to be colored black is what is used in official lineart. Just saying in case jjarodurandal doesn't quite understand.

WOOH! Finished! sorta...

here's the B&W:

and what coloring i have done:

I've still got a couple stray lines in there that i'm just now seeing and i kinda feel i should put some more work in on details to break up some of the solid cells i have, but that's more or less it! Anyway... i think it's turning out better than eagle did...

I use too many ellipses.

not worth a bumb, but the completed Gundam Wizrd.

There's still plenty i can think of to do to it, but if i don't stop somewhere, this thing will never be 'finished'.

Re: JjaroDurandal's Art

Works in progress, since that's all i have. Wish i had better skills or lower standards so i could make more progress on some of these.

This is supposed to be the main character for my fan fic, if i can ever write a first chapter for it that i like. Beyond that, not much to say other than i hate clothes. Drawing them, that is. Oh, and the face is the first bit of shading i've done that i've liked.

This is a mech of sorts from another of the stories festering in my head. Berserk Fenrir here is a sentient machine wolf the size of some smaller sky scrapers and powered by hate and pain. It's 'pilot' (he sits in the seat, but Fenrir doesn't always obey) spends most of his time trying to keep Fenrir from tearing the city they're in apart and massacring said city's denizens. The longer the fight goes on, the more damage is given and recieved, the more powerfull Fenrir gets; and all the harder to control.

a gundam's head that i drew, then realized i didn't have any concept for a body to match it with. Still thought it was pretty cool so i figured i'd post it here.

http://i845.photobucket.com/albums/ab14 ... 1265265624

worked on this for 3 hours tonight and made no progress what so ever. I drew the head first, then the body. I like them both, but the head was meant to look like the helmet of a knight's plate armor, hence the visor. When i eventually got a body that i thought looked good... well, it really doesn't fit with the head at all. So know i have to decide if i wanna redraw the head, or redraw the body. If i'm feeling particularly industrious i might even do both, but the odds of me being so motivated in the near future are slim.

Aside from these, I've also got ideas in my head for another gundam design, 3 non-gundam mobile suits, a franken idea that is named and best described as Zeta Qubeley, a super robot design, and an original real robot i'm calling a 'powered marionette' for another story. For some reason any time i have an idea for a design, I'm compelled to come up with a universe for it to fit into. I think I've done maybe one sketch where that wasn't the case.

Please forgive any grammatic transgressions, but it's late and neither my eyes nor my mind is in top condition.
