Re: New Feature-Length Live-Action Gundam Movie Incoming

Very hard for me to muster much excitement for this. It's likely going to be watered down and Hollywoodized, like every other anime adaptation lately. It'll probably be unsatisfying to classic 0079 superfans and alienating/confusing to casual fans, whos' only exposure to Gundam was the alternate-uni...

Re: The Official Gundam Narrative Anime Thread Mk I

Nothing's happened to it, there just isn't anything new to report yet. It's not due out until November, so info is still sparse at the moment. It's not even been 2 months since its announcement. Also, I see zero indication that Gundam is "moving away" from conventional shows, seeing as IBO...

Re: The Official Gundam Thunderbolt Anime Thread Mk I

Well, well now.

I hope this means a season 3 announcement is imminent. Definitely ended on a to-be-continued note.

I gotta say, I like the religious figure angle with the Newtype cult. Reminds me a little bit of Victory Gundam, with Queen Armonia.

Re: The Official Gundam Twilight AXIS Anime Thread Mk I

I also thought it was a trailer at first. Hell, that editing was atrocious. For something that's supposed to be distilled to 3 minute snippets, it should've gone with a series of vignettes that could be strung into a narrative thread. Instead, the first episode is a disjointed, time-jumping mess tha...

Re: Is the Gundam fins optimized for communication?

As far as I can guess, there's one important practical use for command antennae that might at least explain their presence beyond communication - visual recognition. In a minovsky-rich environment, being able to visually identify your commander is important, especially when the computer has to rely ...

Re: What MS design would you like to fix?

You madman! I love the G-Self's head and it's forward-pointed horns. Keep yer mitts off. If I had to pick a suit to change, it'd be the classic Gouf. The machinegun fingers are a bit silly (the Custom model fixed that by making them a seperate wrist-mounted weapon), but my real beef is the heatrod. ...

Re: The Official Gundam The Origin Anime Thread Mk I

I'm having a major tug-of-war between my hand and my wallet here. Has there been ANY indication of a standard edition release from Rightstuf? I saw the first episode of The Origin and loved it, but dear god are these collector's blu-rays obscenely-priced. I'll even pay the same absurd prices I paid ...

Re: The Official Gundam Iron-Blooded Orphans Anime Thread Mk

Episode 5 was great to see. The fights were nice and the way they got things rolling was just fun to watch. So far Mika does not disappoint and I like how he does not feel like a blatant Heero ripoff but just more of a chill and calm dude who gets the job done. Agreed on ep. 5. I'd been mostly enjo...

Re: The Official Gundam Thunderbolt Anime Thread Mk I

Didn't they mass produce the Gundam though? I thought 8th MS Team essentially confirms they mass produce a slightly less quality model. Well, not quite. IIRC, the Gundams from 08th MS were built with spare parts from Project V, which is why replacing certain components was impossible. It's why we s...

Re: The Official Gundam Iron-Blooded Orphans Anime Thread Mk

That video is probably fan made, but the song is legit, apparently. ANN has it listed as the opening. Ah, I stand corrected, then! Not big into the song, but I'll have to see how the official opening looks once the show starts simulcasting. Sometimes the strength of an opening's animation and style...

First OP for G-Tekketsu is from MAN WITH A MISSION Ugh. Usually I like Gundam OPs to a variety of levels but this...gah...It really isn't to my taste I just hope any other OP for this series is better. You guys sure about this, though? I can't find any actual sources corroborating the opening music...

Glad you're aboard too, Uncle Zeonista. We UC purists understand the need for rebellion against the souls weighed down by gravity. After all, Mars is nowhere near as oppressive as earth. :P Let's just hope our hype doesn't turn to despair. Speak for yourselves, this UC purist is a Feddie through-an...

Oh, good! Victory is my most anticipated release here...not my favorite Gundam, but it was much better than I initially expected, given some fan reviewers were outright reaming it. Underrated gem, I think. Glad to hear they've made the explicit announcement of what we're due for. Honestly, can't thi...

Re: The Official Gundam The Origin Anime Thread Mk I

I cannot vouch for the accuracy of this claim, but a friend of a friend works with Rightstuf, in a capacity that allows them to interact with the inventory management system. I am *told* that placeholder SKU numbers for all unreleased UC Gundam titles (and X) exist in the system at present. This mea...

Nice!

Will be pre-ordering this.

Personally, I'm more excited for when we eventually see a V Gundam DVD release, assuming this new distribution deal with Rightstuf continues successfully.

So preorder your DVDs, people! Let's give them the numbers they need.

Re: The Official Gundam The Origin Anime Thread Mk I

Yikes, is the $100 collectors edition the only available blu-ray import? Was just glancing over Rightstuf.

Is there any word of a more "standard" edition down the pipe, or should I snap this up to ensure I can actually get it?

Re: Hovering and Water

Given that the Dom hovers via downward-facing jet engines in its legs, it should be able to hover over basically any surface at basically any altitude (up until it hits its service ceiling, anyway) without problems. This isn't how it's portrayed at all, of course, but that's how the technology shou...

Re: The Official Gundam: The Origin Manga Thread

I received my copy of volume VI earlier today and I just finished reading it. Honestly I'm liking Origins better than the actual series. It's just awesome to finally see all the things that came into play before war broke out between Zeon and the Federation. I can't wait till I get my hands on the ...

Re: Fan Consensus on Canon in UC and Reguild

Don't dismiss side stories in fan discussion, however! They make good material for fleshing out the setting beyond the initial animated works. Here's how I see it: If you want a softball rule, think of the old Star Wars canon (until Disney obliterated everything). Canon from different sources was ra...

Re: The Official Gundam Unicorn Mecha Thread Mk IV

I get where you're coming from, Mark. It's all very inelegant and annoying. And of course, Torrington IS only important because of its proximity to the colony crater, which is the symbolic landmark that the La+ program sought out. In all, the OVA would have benefitted immensely by cutting out Dakar ...
