Re: G-Force in SPAAACE!!

Very, very few people put much faith in the official stats. Sadly, however, animation is sufficiently inconsistent as to not provide a very good baseline, and much can also be shrugged off as "artistic license" since the animators are there to tell a story, not obey physics in a consistent...

I make it three Marasais, just with poor detailing on the other two. YMMV.

Re: G-Force in SPAAACE!!

Of course, the "average" acceleration of MS is in the nature of 1.5 G, so the stresses placed on a pilot's body while maneuvering in reentry would not necessarily be as bad as all that. MS capable of pulling more than 3 gravities of acceleration are nearly unheard of. 6 G of acceleration? ...

Burke: You've been calling Setsuna "Seiran" in your reviews; not sure what that's about. Also, Allelujah's last name is Haptism. I'm starting to think you're not watching official translations, which may cause trouble at some point, as words do have meaning. The Celestial Being super-compu...

Re: Burke's First Impressions of Gundam Seed Destiny!

...since when did Coordinators have telepathic abilities...? They don't. However, the English translator/editor missed the fact that Gai makes some pretty obvious signals (taking off his glasses, IIRC) to his buddy to signal when things are going to go down. Since the translator or editor missed th...

Re: Explain the Earth Sphere map please

"One big mess" is pretty much the description for a lot of the Universal Century, with it's multiple versions of nearly every story (but especially the OYW). Just read through the partial translated data archive , which so far deals with only the first ten years of UC backstory (1979-1989)...

Re: The Official Gundam AGE Anime Thread Mk II

Who's piloting the Gafrans? You're making the assumption that they are piloted, and at this point, there's been no indication as to that being the case. I'm still betting that the blue Gafran are all AI controlled. Other than one Gafran using hand-signs to tell another to stop attacking and run awa...

Re: Burke's First Impressions of Gundam Seed Destiny!

Burke, remember, later, that Durandal said he'd deploy military forces for "self-defense purposes only" (in the fansubs, this was generally translated as "for aggressive self-defense"; I wonder at the difference in implication between the two). For myself, one of the best parts o...

Re: Explain the Earth Sphere map please

Allow me to direct you to Gundam: High Frontier.

Yes, according to the maps, Sides were renumbered. And yes, the Sides orbit their respective LaGrangian points, which helps explain why the colonies around L1, L2 and L3 stay where they are, as those are unstable LaGrangian points.

Re: Burke's First Impressions of Gundam Seed Destiny!

Destiny opens very strongly, I was quite hopeful, even if the first half-dozen episodes feel a lot more like "The Athrun Zala Show" than anything else, with Shinn coming off as some kid that's had too kind a guardian, and who hasn't learned when to keep his mouth shut yet. This is particul...

Re: Burke's First Impressions of Gundam Seed!

I'd say it was handled fairly well...except for the creative re-editing of certain episodes of Seed which had to be done right before Destiny, so that they could resurrect someone. That's not "well done", that's "oh, hey, we should totally bring that guy back to boost ratings." M...

Re: Burke's First Impressions of Gundam Seed!

The cute M1 Astray Orb pilot girls get killed. Cagalli gets angry at this, and she... has a seed-drop moment?! But she's a Natural! She quickly blows away a lot of enemies, but... why did that happen? Or is there more to Cagalli than we know...? This is proof that SEED-Factor is not limited to Coor...

Re: Burke's First Impressions of Gundam Seed!

Remember how hard it is to kill a major character in Seed? Keep that in mind when you go to Destiny. Destiny, alas, did a lot to cheapen...well, a great deal of the final episodes in Seed. Not that Seed itself shied away from cheapening some characters' actions by having them be not-dead-yet, so Fla...

Re: Gundam: What's Official?

As pointed out repeatedly in this thread, the term "canon" is quite unhelpful. Rather, we should use something like "official", because "canon" implies a measure of internal consistency which the animation utterly lacks, since both TV shows and various compilation movie...

Re: Burke's First Impressions of Gundam Seed!

Orb's Kusanagi ship is really neat! I love the modular design, plug-and-play mecha and hardware have always been very appealing to me. I'm also amused to learn that the Archangel is based on the Kusanagi - not the other way around, as one might expect. I'm also pleased to see the smart, sexy Erica ...

Re: Burke's First Impressions of Gundam Seed!

As for the Druggies/Three Idiots, that is one big complaint I have about them - perhaps it's premature, but from what reading from you all, it's a valid one. The complaint is that they don't feel like real characters - they're caricatures, just generic, cwwwwazy bwaa-haa-haa, foaming at the mouth w...

Re: Known MSV-R so far

Well, I think that's exactly the sort of tie-in which gives the MSV-R lineup some credibility. I'd much prefer things like this to endless variants of existing designs. If the likes of Katoki are going to raid Okawara's M-MSV series to find inspiration for From the Place Beyond the Blaze , then I'm ...

And at the end of episode 31, on one of the PLANTs, at the home of Lacus Clyne... we find an injured, bandaged Kira waking up in a bed. How the heck did he get there? How is he even alive?!?! We meet Reverend Malchio - the reverend at the church/orphanage we see very briefly in the Strike/Aegis go ...

Still generating comments after so long? I clearly did something wrong. Alas, I never got back to answer some of the comments before, as I switched locations in the 'stan and lost decent interwebs. Better late than never, I suppose? Seraphic: While I agree in principle that only the viewers will kno...
