Re: General Fan Fiction Discussion
Good point. Feminism has definately changed over the last hundred years from the suffragette movement to get women the vote to the woman's lib and sexual liberation and breaking out of the tradition gender roles of the houseFraw of the 60s. It isn't a 'quick fix' situation and with so many different...

Re: General Fan Fiction Discussion
Or maybe he should. Not with the main character, but perhaps one of the supporting or villainous characters. We've seen fascists, well-intentioned extremists, insane fundamentalists, royalists, zealots before in Gundam, why not an overly extreme feminist. But there's also the thing to consider, how ...

Re: Any Gundam anime, manga, or novel of 0079 discussion thread
So we knew that in Zeta most are happy to use the stock issue orange pilot suit, but Cammile is such a mischievous boy that he demanded white colour. Katz is already troublemaker from the start so it's understandable that he wanted different colour, ended up with green. Char is still Char, no matte...

Re: Any Gundam anime, manga, or novel of 0079 discussion thread
Maybe it could just be something really, really simple that whoever supplies these ships with normal suits only ever has about three white ones and a ton of orange and it all operates on a first-come, first-serve policy. :P Of course, Slegger's suit (which, if I recall has a stylised 'S' on the helm...

Re: Any Gundam anime, manga, or novel of 0079 discussion thread
B. Why did the pilots of the Trojan Horse wear different normal suits (Amuro had a white one, Sayla had a yellow one, and Sleggar had a blue one)? Well, if you watch the opening credits, Amuro is wearing a very nifty blue number. Maybe it's some kind of bizarre rank system. Or maybe, outside of the...

Re: Marvel Comics outsources for anime series
There have also been rumors that the series will rewrite his origins from Canadian mutant to a guy who was bonded to a demon spirit--less Wolverine, and more Ghost Rider. It hasn't been proven, but the idea of changing the character so much has bothered some fans. Shhh, don't tell them they gave Wo...

I have my issues with RotF, Big, big issues, but to be honest, it isn't as if Transformers is some sort of pinnacle of mature sci-fi.
Also, in the end, it's a film, I thought it was terrible, but people enjoyed it and that's the main thing. Movies come and go, but life goes on.

Did anyone else see elements of Isaac Asimov's Foundation series in Gundam 00? Especially when it came to Aeolia and his great plan.

Re: If mecha anime went Hollywood.
Yeah, when I think of Gundam, I have never once thought "Saving Private Ryan with Giant Robots". I don't think trying to turn something that always does have some supernatural elements (Newtype, Quantum Brain Waves, Glowing Space T, etc) into the already mentioned World War II thing, even...

Re: If mecha anime went Hollywood.
The only way to make the story of Gundam acceptable to a general Western audience would be to place the focus of the story and action on the White Base , because there is a sci-fi tradition of starships here. However, if you do that, it pretty much is no longer a Gundam movie. I disagree, for one t...

Re: If mecha anime went Hollywood.
But you're going to piss fans off no matter what you do. This is true from Gundam to Transformers to Star Trek, the moment you do something they don't like, they will jump over you like carnivourous ants from the last Indiana Jones movie. And they'll still go and see the movie seven times out of ten...

Re: Transformers 2 Trailer
I liked Transformers, even though it was directed by Michael Bay and not written by Simon Furman. Yeah, it had it's faults, but when has Transformers ever not had any flaws? When I heard there was gonna be a sequel, I thought 'Well, hopefully it'll be like the X-Men movies where X1 was pretty decent...

Nah, I think that people just need to go 'screw the fans, let's try and make this accessible to as large a mainstream audience as much as we can.'

Re: My Gundam 00 Season 1 Review
Personally, I felt that Saji and Louise are meant to be 'the common people' in this series at least who live in relative luxury and for whom, the war is usually something they only ever see on the news and is something that to start off with, never ever really effects them. They're not polititions, ...

Re: If mecha anime went Hollywood.
I should have said: There were no fanbase for something like The Matrix, but it spawned two sequels. There! There were also no fanbase for something like Power Rangers before it, but it sells up to now. But just because there is or isn't a fanbase for something doesn't mean it'll equal popularity. ...

Re: Mamoru Oshii's - The Sky Crawlers
Maybe it's a commentary on how society will forever be trying to stamp out any real individuality in the pursuit of faceless conformity. Or maybe an eternal war is just a eternal war. But if you can look at an anime and believe that the metaphor is what the guy is spouting in the review, congratulat...

Re: Mamoru Oshii's - The Sky Crawlers
See, I read that review back when it first came out, and although I haven't seen the movie, my reaction remains pretty much the same: ...what? It's a very big statement to basically read into a movie, and without any direct sort of tipoff I don't know as I buy it. Can anyone explain to me if there'...

Re: Is the the 'realism' of Gundam overstated?
But not everyone is going to have read (or wants to read) the side-publications and artbooks and model magazines etc etc and really, any IMPORTANT technical information that we need to know should either be in the plot or will simply be suspension of disbelief. Or at least supply me details on how t...

Re: Is the the 'realism' of Gundam overstated?
Not to bash anyone, but I rather take it in an easy manner. IMO, UC MS are portrayed as common military hardware, in that respect even the Gundam got wear and tear, damage and eventually destroyed. MSG, Zeta, 0083 or 08MS Team serves good examples, even Gundam and the hero's band (good guys) are no...

Re: Improving G Gundam, and how to handle a continuation
What I'd like to know is what G Gundam did or didn't do that was so deficient that it necessitates improvement. In my honest opinion, it doesn't need anything else. It's a perfect show. It might be nothing more than 'Gundam meets DBZ' but damn it, if it ain't one of the best things in the whole fra...
