Re: Latest movie thread.

Saw Robot and Frank a while back, a sweet yet cynical little story about aging and companionship. Frank Langella does an excellent job portraying someone on the edge of dementia and his chemistry with the robot is uncanny. This is a movie that proves just how much effort goes into and how much patho...

Re: Code Geass: Akito the Exiled

Damn, now I want to go and rewatch all of LoGH. Call me strange, but I think that R2 would have been better were it to have gone completely insane. This is just my opinion, however. As good as S1 was, it was no smarter at times, and it was presentation more than anything else that led to overlooking...

Re: The Official Kamen Rider Thread

I'm starting Kabuto after I finish up Hibiki. My friends have nothing but good things to say about it. The first 30 episodes of Hibiki are good, though on the dry side. While I would not say that what comes afterward is awful or should be avoided. But what comes after episode 30 is a series of quest...

Re: Code Geass: Akito the Exiled

Though the two seasons of Code Geass did have one thing that made every episode worth watching, Lelouch. When it comes to shows like Gundam and Macross, the stars are Mobile Suits and the music respectively. CG on the other hand, had one man carrying 90% of it, which made it easier to tolerate all o...

Re: New Code Geass Project

Maybe it's because the thing that made the original Code Geass work was its characters (Lelouch in particular) and utter insanity, but I left this OVA kind of lukewarm. I think the technical aspects go without saying here. The CG composting isn't perfect, but I think that is going to be an issue for...

Re: SF Debris

Well there are Gundam F91 and Macross Plus. Neither require much familiarity into their respective universes. However, both run into the same things as Rebuild 1. They are nice to look at, but are difficult to emotionally invest in. There is, of course 0080. I don't think 0080 requires too much fami...

Re: SF Debris

Hmmm... if there are a few of us that watch him, maybe we could get together and donate in order to get him to do something mecha-related (apart from Evangelion). I was thinking of the original Mobile Suit Gundam movie trilogy, although Code Geass would be entertaining to watch him riff on. That ac...

Re: Reactors: Fusion vs Fission

In short, fission draws upon energy from the weak nuclear force, while fusion the strong. The bonds between fermions (protons and neutrons) are indeed more powerful than the bonds between atoms (the electromagnetic force). However, like it takes more internal energy to hold subatomic particles toget...

Re: The Official Sign In/Out Thread

Signing in for the first time in over two years, and I feel so out of place, yet so little seems to have changed. Since leaving the forum, I had somewhat of a falling out with anime (one which I now regret). Now however, I intend to find myself back into the niche. In that time, I had changed my maj...

Re: Bandai Entertainment discontinuing all sales

I had heard at one point that Bandai was going to switch to digital distribution for its properties. Was this just a rumor, or will some of their licensed properties still be commercially available in some form?

Re: The Official Kamen Rider Thread

\\Well first time in years posting, and Kamen Rider has been mostly what I have been watching. Might as well start here. As of now, I have seen five series in their entirety, as well as The First and Shin Kamen Rider. Of those five (Ryuki, Den O, W, OOO, and Fourze) I think the only one I didn't muc...

Gundam UC and VOTOMS. I'll probably pick up one show at random. But nothing seems to grab my attention.

Re: Relighting Anime Fire

Yeah, fatigue is best solved by avoiding whatever caused it. Watch other stuff, do other things. Go play basketball. Blow some ZOINKS up in a videogame. Watch the Shawshank Redemption. Write or draw. Play an instrument. Seduce a woman. If you're passionate, you'll come back to it eventually. =) The...

Relighting Anime Fire

No, this is not a post asking for good anime on the grounds that I can't seem to find them. For anyone who has been into anime for at least five years, I think it is safe to say that the occasional loss in passion for the medium comes around every once and a while. I can remember two and a half year...

Re: The Official Gundam Unicorn Anime Thread Mk II

Where's said hate coming from. It's a beautiful song, and its in a very classic Gundam style. Ignoring 0080, Gundam really hasn't ever had a mediocre soundtrack. And it's doubtful that this will be an exception.

Re: Stage 2: Ambush!

--Cluster 20-- "Oh balls!" Max yelled as he saw an explosion come from a near by pile of rubble. He closed his cockpit, but not before a piece of shrapnel sliced him in the side. "*****!" And to make matters worse, came to blow back from the explosion itself. The Raptor was mostl...

Re: Latest movie thread.

I think my brother is taking a class like that. Though the only two movies I know he's seen in it are Bombay and Chinatown. He told me that the latter was like a non-stoner version of The Big Lebowski. Is this a sound comparison?

Animenewsnetwork has an exclusive review of the first volume of Mobile Suit Gundam: Unicorn OVA.
From personal experiance, ANN is not really a good barometer when it comes to an anime's quality. But hopefully, this time they are right.

Re: Latest movie thread.

Finally got around to District 9. And I gotta say, I cannot believe that I was so moved by a movie where I hated just about every character. The CGI was just perfect, especially considering the budget.
