Whenever I come across a situation like this and I am in doubt, I just chalk it up to Minovsky Particles.

In my experience the more complicated a design, the less and less posable it is. The ZZ is an example of that. I recommend just getting the MSIA from a couple/few years back instead of a highly expensive and complicated kit whose posablity will still be subpar. Of course your experience may vary.

I've hand painted a couple of MGs using Gundam paint (a Qubuley painted to look like Puru's and a Hyakushiki Ballute type in Char's colors), and I think they look great. So personally I would go that route, but I was never a fan of air brushes.
