I think that there's no relation between the MSG III and Zeta Gundam's premiere. It's just that the Gundam franchise is getting popular at that time, considering the success of other sci-fi mecha shows.

It does sounds a lot like the EA training ground wherethey have giant paintball shoot out using captured (modified to EAed) Zakus.

At least it's fun having that kind of sport. Best of all, it's not costly and open for everybody, just like having war games.

Mobile Suit Shooting Sport. Instead of equipping a target system for a MS, it should not feature this capability. Then, ordinary bullets will be replaced in the ammo of MS rifles, which will test the pilot's mobile suit manuevering skill & accuracy in hitting a target.
